    Trajan's short gamma journal

What was it about Wednesday's action that made you change direction? Did you get long by the closing of short positions or did you add to longs? Not so sure it was just dumb luck. Thanx.

    Mark Douglas vs Van Tharp

any order as how they should be read "Disciplined Trader" first, develop a trading methodology with real money(very small size), read "Financial Freedom", than read "In the Zone". So many books have been recommended that are real garbage, not the money that bothers me but the wasted time...

Best options strategies for various market scenarios

If you are successful identifying tops and bottoms than you can do just about anything, because you were right in your market call, including straddles and strangles either long or short. Now as we come into earnings season option strategies make the most sense, to scalp gamma, trade...

    market orders on open

Silk, If i'm going to buy a straddle at market, is there really much difference than buying at market on the open or say doing it at market at 9:45?? Talking 10 contracts. Better to wait, the bid ask spreads seem to narrow later in the day on some stocks. In your straddle example are...

    Tradecast, Would YOU??

Having had a number of accounts with different brokers/platforms I also agree TradeCast was the best. No frills or gimmicks to trip over, just a well laid out platform that was steady. Would rather they charge more per trade, not wanting a gang of people signing up and mucking up the service...

    Eyes on Fire

I also prefer the sharpness of a crt, but the biggest relief from eye strain was when my optometrist recommended varalux(I think that's the name)lens in my glasses, also lighting from the rear/side.

    Interesting situation in an Option

Neospecialist wrote: The better question relates to your ability to time the short term-market in "legging "into your spread. If you buy the higher strike first and the stock turns down you are merely long and" hoping and praying". Comes down to "trading and direction" as you wrote in...

Nitro, I would have to say for the most part your comments are correct, and the words you put in caps are what options come down to, being a trader, and ending up with some directionality to your positions at some point. (Don't understand first line of your post? A word missing?)

    Crap and Hardrightedge

"As for why the link isn't there, I'll be damned if I can remember where it was or why it was pulled." Morning Trader, 7 bells, left side under heading for boards. PS: The one sentence market comment has always been good.

    Crap and Hardrightedge

Couple of days ago I read how the crap was going to be cut out and thought it wasn't a bad idea. The crap drives away the posters who have ideas to exchange. Two years ago I started reading this board because Alan Farley had a link on his website. This morning I read his "things he hates...

Is Black-Scholes the Right Option for Options?

In the book "The Business of Options" Martin O'Connell tells about an options seminar he spoke at and one of the speakers was Myron Scholes. Dr. Scholes was giving his presentation and during it one of the participants kept hassling him, finally saying "Your model is just plain wrong." Dr...

    What happened to Ramoutar report?

When I asked why you were writing the report you replied, no need for any other discussion 4 days or 4 weeks later. Read the posts of Quah and Trajan, they come to mind quickly, as people who come to a public forum to share experience and ideas. If you didn't have something to sell I would...

YOU have an agenda, THEY are running a privately owned business venture. Was and is just a matter of time.

    strangle calculations

Thank you for the clarification, it was a misspeak when saying "selling premium", but you get the point. I have strangles on for the earnings period and the ones I picked were for volatility and premium. Some may have been better as short strangles or long straddles and I thought some...

    strangle calculations

Stock at 34.13, long the Aug 37.50 puts, long the Aug 32.50 calls. Sell the 32.50 puts on a drop and sell the 37.50 calls on a run up.

    See Bad Money Management LIVE

I watch people take a few losses then all of the sudden their bet size increases ten-fold or something like that. Either they win and the cycle repeats, or they blow out. Do you also see a similarity between "fun" poker tables and paper trading?

    strangle calculations

Been trading long strangles on stocks to sell premium. Using lognormal distribution charts, standard deviation, ATR, and support/resistance levels to try to convince myself it is other than luck when a stock moves to point X. Are there any calculations that can be made that can enhance this...

    A journey towards successful trading...

With your skills as someone who consistently exploit the edge with discipline, perhaps you might want to look into options trading? I don't mean trading by buying premium but doing spreads of various types and adjusting positions and keeping the delta neutral etc. Granted that it's still not...
