new "circuit breakers" for individual stocks

After rereading this, it appears that a stock dropping 20% won't have short sale restrictions until the following day. So once it drops 20%, you can still short that day. That's a little better than I previously thought.

    any suggestion for monitor setup?

Ergotron makes good solid products. If you don't need 5 monitors, they have a 4 monitor stand...maybe if you went to 21" monitors you'd have the same amount of real estate. Or you could buy a 3 monitor stand and a 2 monitor stand and stack the latter on top of the former (if that will work.)

    (Double) Property tax deduction warning

I used Green for my tax prep until last year, and unfortunately I didn't do a good job checking over their figures until it after I filed the returns. So I have a couple of tax returns in which my property taxes are deducted for (almost) twice what they should be. I'm not trying to single...

My brother had an aneurysm and I lost my shirt

No, they just practically made out on the red carpet. Seriously.

new "circuit breakers" for individual stocks

This really opens up a can of worms. When a stock goes down 20%, what if there is short selling that takes place under (even say 1% under) that price? Do those trades get busted? I can just imagine shorting a stock, then covering thinking I have a profit, only to find out (after it continues to...

new "circuit breakers" for individual stocks

I think they're just going to halt short selling, not trading entirely. Here's the full story: DJN: WSJ(10/11) Exchanges Discuss Circuit Breaker (Dow Jones 10/10 19:34:11) (From THE WALL STREET JOURNAL) By Kara Scannell WASHINGTON -- U.S. stock exchanges are working on a...

How close is Wachovia to becoming the next WM?

OK so it's still going to zero.

How close is Wachovia to becoming the next WM?

FDIC says WB didn't fail. What does that mean?

How close is Wachovia to becoming the next WM?

Of course, it's the speculators, with their heavy short positions, driving down the stock. :p

Effective Monday, stocks with market cap under $100M will be non-marginable at IB

So if I want to short a stock with a market cap under $100M, I have to have the full amount in my account?

Tax on Trades Should Be Part of Rescue Plan, Some Democrats Say

If they have already done this in Gr Britain, why wouldn't they do it here? What effect did it have on London's stock market?

Tax on Trades Should Be Part of Rescue Plan, Some Democrats Say

I realize we're dealing with idiots here, but please be cordial if you contact these guys. Otherwise it will fall on deaf ears.

Tax on Trades Should Be Part of Rescue Plan, Some Democrats Say

I kept my letter short and sweet. (Had to pretend I was from Oregon to have the email go through.) :-) "Can you give me one shred of evidence that speculators and investors are principally responsible for causing the financial crisis?"

    WM butchered after hours.

What I don't get is why it initially went up about .50 after the news. I just can't believe it took well over 1/2 an hour for the market to figure out that the news was so bad.

    Financial stocks Monday?

What (theoretically) should happen to the financial stocks after the government $700B bailout?

    I shorted financials

Why would they let you short them in the first place? It sounds like it's their fault for not disallowing shorts on those stocks.

    UAUA (and LCC)

Does anyone remember COCO in 2002ish; was that a faulty news type deal? They halted it after it went down a bunch, and it recovered after the halt just like EMLX (in 2000) and UAUA. But I can't remember why it went down so much. They ended up busting the trades that occurred while it was going...
