    news

Yes, it's possible but it depends on several things such as the stock's liquidity and the significance of the news. The lower the liquidity the more likely to gap more and reduce your odds to profit after the move starts. The more significant the news the greater the stock should be...

100%, sounds like insider trading!:D Hypothetically, I would buy a large amount of the stock and scale out into the momentum once the news was released. Since I entered before the move I could hold some a little longer through the wiggles. Tony

    news

This is very true. News trading used to be a big part of my profits in 2000. Most of the stories back then would move stocks sharply. Today few stories are real "gems." The best news plays these days are on the economic #'s like ISM,cons. conf.,jobless claims, etc. Tony

Sure, that's momentum trading. Entering on momentum is a good play if the news is very unexpected. However it's riskier than entering before the move especially with listed stocks. Listed stocks tend to gap on news(move in increments of 10c or more),so you'll be chasing the stock 20-30c before...

    news

Right. Many times I've entered a trade when the news first hit the wires and exited as CNBC finally reports on it. That is usually the last little pump before it reverses. One thing is that you should know ahead of time what will be perceived as good/bad news whether it be earnings,economic...

I know. I'm more interested in the 5x (YM) since it has much more volume.

    YM, YJ (Dow E-Mini's) Anybody?

I don't trade futures but may in the future. I am mostly interested in the DOWmini since I trade DIA a lot. Anyway, I've been watching them lately and noticed that they haven't been trading at a premium to the index like the ES and NQ do to their indexes. Today they've been at a 10-15 point...

How Many Echotrade Traders Pay Clearing Fees

That's true for Trade_Cents' example above, but SEC fees are figured on the $ value of the sale not how many shares were sold. For example: If you sold 300 shares of a $30 stock($9000), the SEC fee would be 30 cents($9000x.000033). The total cost would be $3.30 or 1.1 cent per share. BTW...

    Trading Journal - July

I agree the Dow is due for retracement. From yesterday's low to today's high 700 pts. Combined with good resistance at the 8000 area gives reason to be bearish here. I think a test of the 7650 area is in the cards by Monday/Tuesday. Just my 2c, Tony Disclosure: I'm short DIA

SEC and other fees on top of your commissions

The SEC charges a fee of 1/300 of 1% of the total dollar amount of securities sold. So if you trade 40000 shares of stock at an avg. $30 a share, $40 would be right on.

    Trading Journal - July

Hello Seanote and congrats on QLGC. I was wondering if you might want to give us more of your commentary like that above(from 8/29). I know you don't post all your trades anymore because of time constraints but I'd enjoy reading your thoughts on the market if you have time to spare. Thanks...

Holy Cr*p ISLD blocked from providing QQQ ,DIA, and SPY full book quotes

I agree. If they thought ISLD's prices were inferior before, does removing the book make them better? I think not. Inferior prices? Whenever a buyer receives an inferior price, a seller receives a superior price and vice versa. It sounds to me like the AMEX is trying to get rid of their...

Futures Magazine vs. Technical Analysis of S&C

I've been receiving it for two months also. Most of the magazine is about the upcoming release of SSF's and strategies/benefits of them. This was the main reason I subscribed as I am very interested in SSF's. I currently do not trade futures(only stocks) but find the articles interesting. The...

    Level II

As far as I know, you can't send orders with "fractional" pennies to MM's. Actually I believe only ISLD and ARCA accept those kind of orders. If you send an order to buy at 15.501 on ISLD, it'll show up rounded to 15.50 on L2 but it'll show up on ISLD book at 15.501. You will get filled before...
