    Fully Automated Stocks Trading

The issue with trading multiple positions with a single strategy using limit orders with Amibroker is for example, my system might generate 100 buy signals or limit orders for one day for 12 positions that I have available. Say for example, that morning, 15 out of 100 of those limit orders get...

    Fully Automated Stocks Trading

Thank you so much for your reply. I think you do some mean reversion trading with multiple positions using daily bars? Are you using limit orders? I find most mean reversion systems work better with limit orders and they are cheaper and easier to trade with Interactive Brokers. With Amibroker...

40 limit order signals but only have 10 positions available

I can start out quite easily just by using the sample TWS DDE Excel sheet from Interactive Brokers and run the real time data from the 40 potential limit orders. It wouldn't be hard to set audible alerts if any of the limit orders get close and then I could manually send out the limit orders one...

    Fully Automated Stocks Trading

I just started to read your journal here and it looks great. Thanks for sharing. I hope your journal helps you just as much as it helps other traders. I read that you started to trade with Amibroker (which I use myself) but now you've migrated to RealTest. Is there any particular reason that...

40 limit order signals but only have 10 positions available

Each of the 40 limit orders has a score calculated so I can select the top 10 or any number of them to send. However, if I only send 10 limit orders, on average only 1 or 2 will get hit each day and my yearly return will be say only 15%. If I can send 40 orders, on average 4 or 5 will get hit...

40 limit order signals but only have 10 positions available

Yes, I did try that but for this non margin/retirement account, IB stops me after I send 10 orders of 10% each for the account for a stop limit order, just the same as a limit order.

40 limit order signals but only have 10 positions available

I have a mean reversion limit order system that calculates 40 possible limit order signals each morning at a percentage below the opening price. For an example, I want to trade $100,000, with 10 positions at $10,000 each. For tax reasons etc, I don't want to use margin and so I can only send out...

    Best Accountant/CPA for Day Traders

@JSOP, did you ever end up finding a good accountant for Canadian tax for traders? So far I've been able to keep all my trading profits taxed as capital gains and I'd like to keep it that way. I live in a small city so when I talk to an accountant about short term trading and taxes, I'll...

Interactive Brokers Market on Close Order

That works perfectly, thanks so much!

Interactive Brokers Market on Close Order

I use Interactive Brokers and I send out up to 20 limit buy orders each day. If any of the buy orders get triggered, I would like the position to be sold as a market on close order at the end of the day. Is there a way to set up a bracket order or something like that where I could place my buy...

    Costs for short selling

Does anyone know for example how much it might cost me to short sell 1000 shares of SQQQ with Interactive brokers for a period of one month? I understand that I would pay commission to short and to cover the trade. I believe that I would also incur an interest charge. IB shows a current fee rate...

A Market on Open order to avoid the bid ask spread?

I did another experiment this morning where I placed a simultaneous buy and sell order for SLV on the open for two different accounts, except this time it was for limit orders instead of market orders. The orders were both executed at the same open price:

A Market on Open order to avoid the bid ask spread?

For an experiment, I bought the ETF SLV and sold it in a different account, both using a market order on the open. So it would seem, at least for this relatively high volume ETF, that I could buy and sell it at the same price. If I wanted to do the same thing during the trading day, I would have...

A Market on Open order to avoid the bid ask spread?

Thank you so much FroggerMan for the information. The ETF that I'm interested in is PALL for physical palladium. The bid ask spread is typically very high, above 1%. My trading system for it only averages around 3% per trade. The only way I can see to avoid this large spread is to switch to...

A Market on Open order to avoid the bid ask spread?

For some ETFs with lower trading volumes the spread between the bid and ask can be as high as 1% or 2%. That makes it impossible to make a profit with any system that has a low average profit per trade. From Interactive Brokers I read this about buy at the open orders: A Market-On-Open (MOO)...

Buying Put Options instead of Shorting

I gave it some more thought today and I think my method of trading would actually work by buying put options instead of shorting. Typically when I trade long, I might be averaging a profit/loss of about 1%. I can count on about 0.2% for my slippage, commission etc. So my average profit should be...

Buying Put Options instead of Shorting

The leverage for example, might make your put options move 10 to 1 compared to the stock price but that won't change the percentage difference between your bid and ask for the options. Am I thinking right with this example?: Say that I could buy one share of a large volume stock trading with a...

Buying Put Options instead of Shorting

In my retirement account, I can't short a stock but I can buy put options. I have some strategies that average around 1% or more profit per trade. However when I look at the put options, the difference between the bid and ask is typically way over 1%, sometimes as high as 100%. I might be lucky...

    Any good trading podcasts/radio shows?

Peter Schiff puts out some good podcasts, more about economics and politics than trading. Have you tried a google search of "trading podcast" ?
