any Prop Firms in San Francisco area?

You are saying that these people you know are able to live off of a mere 5k. So they would need to consistently return 1500% per year, every year. lol, sure. Why don't you ask them to join the boards and spread their wisdom

    California RE bubble.

Where are the bubbles? Look at it from a supply & demand perspective. San Diego, population 1250000, # of single-fam housing permits in 2005: 1050 Los Angeles, pop. 3800000, # permits: 2500 San Jose, pop. 950000, # permits: 800 Bakersfield, pop. 300000, # permits 4900 Sacramento, pop...

Bernanke May Change His Tune On Wednesday

I agree. People underestimate the scope of the housing market. And there's more to it than just housing construction jobs too. When you sell your house and buy another one, what do you do? Hire movers, hire people to fix/clean up your existing house, maybe stage the house, pay comissions...

    Anyone else workout in here?

bah, Berardi is the guy who preached eating meals with carbs & protein, or fat & protein, but not carbs & fat. I believed him and spent weeks suffering on that diet, and the results werent any better than simple calorie counting and eating healthy. He may be a big guy with a doctorate but that...

real estate LA - banging my head against the wall

I live in Los Altos, a small city in Silicon Valley, and it's whiter than snow lol. 80% white, 17% asian. My neighbor, who has lived here 20+ years, said it used to be almost 100% white. Virtually all of the Asians are rich folks who immigrated from Taiwan or Hong Kong; to them, a 1700 sq...

real estate LA - banging my head against the wall

The upper-end of housing buyers is not as directly affected by mortgage rates as other home buyers, because very affluent people tend to buy with cash or with very large down. Rich folks may be affected indirectly to the extent that higher rates may slow down the economy, but otherwise they...

200k in savings account... Earning a low 3.20%... What do to...

There are brick and mortar banks that offer rates close to what Internet banks offer. They often have a "Special Internet MM Rate" if you apply online and link it to your checking. If 3.2% is the best you can do, I don't think you've searched very hard. Even some brokers pay more in their MMA.

200k in savings account... Earning a low 3.20%... What do to...

I think that's what he was trying to say but he didn't phrase it well. He's basically suggesting to open accounts at different banks to increase FDIC insurance

real estate LA - banging my head against the wall

Maybe the reason those other people who made the same income as you were able to buy their home was because they made good financial decisions from the get-go. You said your credit was crap -- why? You didn't buy a house before the boom -- so what did you spend your money on instead? And...

    pattern daytrade rule discrimination ???

god there are so many forms of discrimination that are considered acceptable and are common. You're complaining about discrimination against people who don't have 25k? Come on. That's hardly substantial. That's like saying airlines who charge extra for first class are discriminating against...

    Real Estate vs Stock Market?

I agree with you. There are a lot of speculators who bought with little down so they have little equity now. Even if they sold their properties so that they can invest in stocks, they have nothing left to invest. The people who bought solid, profitable properties that produce cash flow are in...

15-20% interest rate in early 80's

Owing money is bad if you have the discipline and patience of a 6 year old, like some adults do. If you're wise and disciplined enough to invest your savings that accumlated from debt, then debt a great thing. Interest rates are so low now, I don't see why people would want to buy anything...

Houses cheaper than cars in depressed Detroit

That house must have had historic value or a large lot, because the most I've seen in Carmel is $4400 per sq foot. The average is 1200/sq ft. As for Detroit... the weather is bad, the crime rate is high, and their economy is singularly focused and weak. Even if I could buy a foreclosure...

    Question about vehicles..

A few months ago I test drove a 6-series coupe, an SL500, SL55 AMG, and a Lincoln Navigator. I didn't care about the Navigator because it was for my gf. But the other cars were going to replace my daily driver. The 6-series is solid and bigger than the MBZs. The MBZs are very low to the...

Options Xpress vs Think or Swim

Do a search for "Cox Ross binomial calculator", there are at least 5 of them for free. I like the one at snowg*.com None of them will tell you the actual margin, but you can use the OCC calculator then use one of these binomial ones to deduce how your margin would change given a change in...

Fructose is not easily digested. It has one of the lowest GI of any food. You are confusing it with dextrose and sucrose. However, most people cannot digest large amounts of fructose in absense of dextrose (fructose intolerance). Not all complex carbs are digested slowly (ex: white potatoes...

US City with the Best Women?

You're right, there are few women over 30 that most non-desperate men with reasonable tastes would consider hot. I've only met a handful in my life. It could be that when you see one, you don't realize it because they don't look over 30. But mostly it's because mother-nature takes its toll...

    Bye-bye reg T

lol, that's because none of them know. I have communicated with a couple of brokers that specialize in options and they can't tell me the details of the PM day-trading rule and what defines a hedge. There is a PM seminar this week in NY for brokerages. Hopefully that will clear it up for...
