Settlement data and trading US, CL, GC

I've been swing trading the ES using a mechanical trading model, and am now broadening my reach to the electronic version of the US, CL, and GC contracts. In the ES world, the trading day ends and the settlement price is released shortly thereafter, and it's usually pretty close to the last...

    MOC futures orders at IB

Perfect answer, JP, thanks very much! You not only answered the question, but provided a very useful workaround. P.S. This is why, despite some of the junk you have to occasionally wade through, ET can be such a valuable resource... definitely a great place to get tightly-focused question...

    MOC futures orders at IB

Does IB offer MOC orders for Globex futures, such as the ES contract? I looked, but couldn't seem to find this, at least for futures. If not, what brokers do? Thanx.

    Backtesting question

That sounds pretty neat, actually. Does it work as well in practice as it sounds like it should? For example, does TS have 1-minute data from say 10 years ago available for this type of lookup?

    Backtesting question

Not sure I get that. If the bar contains a wide enough range that allows both a stop and a profit target both to be hit, how does TradeStation decide which has been hit? Seems to me you'd need the higher-rez data.

Vikana, Just saw your post, above. Very interesting idea -- I'll check it out! Thanks.

    Backtesting question

Thanks to all for the helpful responses. While I was afraid that was going to be the answer, it's good to know I'm not missing anything. I'll digest all of this (and look at the referenced paper) and post back if there's more to pursue. This is a good example of how ET can be helpful...

    Backtesting question

I do mostly swing trading, and have been backtesting strategies without any problems, but now I've reached a point where I'm not sure how to proceed. The strategy I currently want to test exits upon hitting a profit target, which my previous strategies have not. In addition, as is often the...

How do I do this in IB?

Yes, I did have that checked. However, I've since tried doing this again, and had no problems. I'm thinking this was some sort of fluky trader malfunction -- unfortunately, that's me! Thanks for the response.

How do I do this in IB?

There's something I don't understand about IB's trailing stop order type. Yesterday evening I was short several ES contracts, and I then put in an alert-triggered trailing stop order, with the alert set for 1,020.50. I set the parameters for the trailing stop to be 3 points trail, and I put...

How do I do this in IB?

I know a lot of folks bash ET, but this little thread shows the significant value of the forum, at least to me. Thanks to both of you, and especially DAV. I think the method you suggested is exactly what I wanted to do!

How do I do this in IB?

Thanks for the suggestion, which is interesting. I'm having problems with one part, though. How do I place an order so that "the 2nd order is conditional to the first 1 order with trailing stops", as you suggested? As far as I can tell, IB won't let me place a conditional order for a...

How do I do this in IB?

I have a profit target (PT) in mind for an account trading futures. When I the price hits that target, I would like to have a trailing stop kick in, such that if the price drops below the PT, the position is closed, but if the price continues to move in my favor, the stop then moves with the...

IB order question -- basic stuff

Thanks, Hurricane. I also found out that there's a Bracket type of order, which automatically places a profit target and a stop loss when the main order is filled. These two orders are associated with each other in an OCA group, and if one fills, the other cancels. And the stop order can...

IB order question -- basic stuff

This is a pretty simple question, and hopefully has a simple answer. I want to protect an existing position with a trailing stop, and I also want to have a profit target, at which point the position will automatically exit. Setting both of those up is pretty easy, but my question is...

How often does this happen with IB?

To ISLAND traders: Tue Mar 24 16:42:48 2009 EST Due to technical problems at the exchange, NASDAQ failed to execute any Market On Close or Limit on Close orders. If you submitted either of these order types today, please manage your risk accordingly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't use...

Has anyone used Verizon Wireless broad band?

I used to use them because my Treo phone had a nice bluetooth modem capability, so anytime my laptop was within 10-20 feet of my cellphone, I could use the 3G cellphone data connection, no cables required. It was very convenient, and less expensive than a dedicated data service at the time...

    BioComp Dakota with Swamp Technology

Hopefully James will reply, but in the meantime I will butt in and say that with these types of swing systems you are generally better off with either no stop or a very wide stop. I personally think that to trade futures with no stop at all is a bit crazy (although I know some successful...

Roubini Says A 'Sovereign' Bank Will Soon Crack, Crashing Credibility of Governments

Here's a correction. He's not talking about banks, but about a government failing, from an economic viewpoint. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roubini Says a ‘Sovereign’ May ‘Crack’ Amid Crisis (Correct) By John Fraher and Courtney Schlisserman (Corrects to remove “bank”...
