My first post; some observations on trading.

"More importantly is my ultimate belief that there is no skill or secret to trading; that trading is pure chance." That's what you said in the first post. Was my example not "trading" to you? Is trading to you only picking a direction, and hoping for the best? I think you get my point...

My first post; some observations on trading.

First, you make it sound like a strategy "blowing out" is really bad. It's normal. Nearly every strategy dies at some point..this job is about adaptation. Before the strategy death you can make a lot of money and that's all that matters. Here's a basic example (out of many) that worked for...

My first post; some observations on trading.

Reversion doesn't have to happen every time for this to be a predictor of price. The truth is that reversion happens most of the time in certain plays. I know guys making > 6 figs, year in and year out just playing reversions. I also made a living for 4 years on reversions on NYSE, but Reg...

Just got this email... CHUCK NORRIS ASSET MANAGEMENT: For those familiar w/ Chuck facts Chuck Norris thinks Credit Crunch is a breakfast cereal. Chuck Norris's subprime CDO is par bid. Only Chuck Norris can rollover commercial paper. Chuck Norris funds at Libor flat. Chuck Norris Asset...

    Day Trading don't work

Of course there are a million ways to trade the markets. In Bill's case I am suggesting going the route that the most people have had success. Why would he make it harder on himself by trading such an efficient market that so many people struggle with?

What's smoother between these...I would rather trade the blue line any day! http://ichart.finance.yahoo.com/z?s=DRYS&t=1d&q=l&l=on&z=m&c=SPY&a=v&p=s

    Day Trading don't work

The ES is "smoother" and more efficient than most stocks which is a bad thing. You want inefficiencies and volatility...that's where the easier money lies. I trade news stocks...whatever is moving.

    Day Trading don't work

Bill, You are still at the beginning of ths trading journey and statistically you won't make it to the point of profitability, but if you are really serious about making changes then please consider just one thing.... Stop trading futures! There are a few ET guys that trade futures...

My first post; some observations on trading.

I don't know how long you have been trading, but from what you have stated it seems that you don't know anyone making a living trading. For that reason I assume you are new to the biz and have surrounded youself with "losers" (people who can't make a living). If you are just talking about...

My first post; some observations on trading.

You have to decide what you want out of this thread. Did you post it so the hundreds of losers could just agree with you, or did you want to learn that you are wrong so you can change your beliefs and become a real trader? You have been in this biz a short time and haven't been exposed to...

    Traders, let's have a discussion.

Like Will mentioned, the average person doesn't understand how instruments actually trade intraday. A funny example was when I was audited for a trade reporting error and had to dig up my trade price. The clearing firm was not being helpful so the IRS agent asked me why can't I just look it up...

p/l thread 2007 skeptics and detractors

Just one point I keep thinking of when reading this thread.... A great benefit to ET is meeting other traders. Especially if you can find traders that are outperforming all the rest. In every business you want to associate yourself with the guys you aspire to be, so you can learn from them...

p/l thread 2007 skeptics and detractors

Great thread. I could explain why I post on the P/L thread but Eric, Lescor, and Shreddog covered my thoughts. Thanks also to those who recognized me in their posts. Obviously trading has been a lot of fun lately and if my numbers can help inspire anyone then that's great.
