    Managing winners

It seems almost all of this is relative. Are you daytrading or swing trading? Are you buying or shorting stock, futures, options, etc? Size of position and amount of capital being tied up definitely comes into play. And as far as “letting your profits run” that’s a pretty gray area as well. I...

CBOE will definitely eventually offer options. Ledger X is offering options right now but you have to pretty much be a big fish, hedge fund, etc. Pretty cool firm/ exchange

How do you trade crude oil?

Selling strangles in /CL when volatility is high enough. My go to is usually the 30 delta strangle.Directionally with /CL debit spreads looking for a volatility pop and/or the right call on direction in lower volatility environments.

    The Flynn crash

Ok say the S&P is down 9% for the DAY.Do the BTFDs come out and start buying? Or do they say "hey maybe its for real this time" and sellers come in and start dumping huge volume of S&Ps and Nasdaq futures. Between late '07 and early '09 we sold off 56% or 57% top to bottom. Am i the only one...

    Put Option Question

Bullish sell a put. Bearish buy a put. Start there. If you want less risk and a slower moving trade you can buy (bearish)and sell (bullish)put SPREADS instead.

Positive correlation between S&P 500 and VIX

It’s actually VIX options that are derived from /VX futures. Not the VIX itself. My mistake

Positive correlation between S&P 500 and VIX

The VIX tracks the volatility future /VX. If you get some big boy buying and selling in the /VX futures it can move the VIX independently regardless of what the S&P is doing.

buying stocks vs. options for short term trading

I am a put selling fool. The whole "picking up nickels in front of a steamroller thing".Some high volatility, rich premium, some good looking support...... get in there and sell a 30 delta put on a down move if your bullish. Check out both strategies (buying a call)if your looking to get into...

buying stocks vs. options for short term trading

Stocks that are heavily traded or in play usually have a nice tight bid/ask which is directly related to liquidity. Take a look at the volume, open interest, and especially the bid/ask in the option chain. Super liquid or heavily traded stocks do not guarantee that the options will be liquid as...

New options trader- vertical spreads question

Selling a dollar wide call spread for 23 cents your pretty much risking 4 to make 1. Your risk on a dollar wide spread is 100. The MOST you can make is 23 dollars per 1 lot obviously. Your risking a hundred dollars to make 23 dollars. The low price of this spread is pretty much directly...
