Why can't I get a job? Recent Grad, 3.7 GPA, Good Exp, Year and a half of searching..

Engineers haven't been finding jobs for most of this decade, especially on the Electrical/Computer, and of course, anything to do with manufacturing. Teaching is pretty awful. Accounting is getting very glutted.

    obama's handling of the economy

Twisted, hardly. Capital isn't something that's created by bankers writing numbers on pieces of paper, or using printing presses. Its created by actually producing more than one consumes, and then using those savings to build more production. The USA has been involved in capital...

Broke people are buying million dollar houses again.

Yeah no kidding, all these loan programs are like giving heroin and crystal meth to an fat man with a broken leg, and then expecting him to go out and run a marathon. Sure, he might be able to do it for a while, but in the end, he will collapse into a pile of fat.

    obama's handling of the economy

Capital and confidence. You're right. I am an engineer, and I personally know many engineers who have awesome ideas. But they won't implement them, because under the current system, there is no incentive for them to do so. Why? Because if they want to start up their business, the only way...

    obama's handling of the economy

Obama needs to put a bona fide scientist or engineer into the positions of Treasury Secretary, and Fed Chairman. Someone who understands that an economy full of paper shuffling absolutely cannot create production that ultimately creates prosperity. Financial system needs to be nuked, and...

Paul Volcker opposes Fed Audit Bill

Yeah no kidding, whack the bankers, take their assets and positions away (and throw them into concentration or re-education camps), burn down Wall Street, empower the scientists and engineers of America, throw out the illegals and other freeloaders, and I think America could come back quite...

Paul Volcker opposes Fed Audit Bill

That would be better than the alternative that is coming down the pipeline if Wall St. isn't abolished.

»BP CEO Says U.S. Gasoline Demand Won’t EVER Return to 2007 Level: WSJ Link

Remember all those f*cking morons on TV who said, when petrol prices were high: "WE NEED TO BUILD MORE REFINERIES!" "America hasn't built a refinery in decades" "The oil industry is being completely irresponsible by not meeting demand" Remember that? Pfft, just makes me mad that...

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

Well, its not that simple. As I stated earlier, the coal powered power plant has a 25% efficiency, ie: for every 1 Joule worth of coal that is loaded into the boiler, you get 0.25 J out, roughly speaking. Then the electrical grid is only about 90% efficient. So that 0.25J is now down to...

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

Exactly! Its not a simplistic issue like "electric cars are 4X more efficient than gas cars". Well, one thing that could be done to new cars immediately is to switch them all to using diesel engines that are no larger than 100hp, give or take. The fleet of new cars would immediately, with...

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

In fairness, electric cars will improve the air quality in some cities. But I'd suggest that downsizing the financial industry, and stopping people from commutting to useless jobs, would accomplish far more in pollution reduction and CO2 reduction, than would 'electric cars'. Seriously, the...

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

Yeah no kidding. In order for America to afford these vehicles, the manufacturing industry is going to have to be revived. Manufacturing takes enormous amounts of electricity. If people want these plug-in cars, they take enormous amounts of electricity to manufacture and run. All...

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

Yup GTS. The big problem is that the electric grid itself isn't delivering energy at much better than 20% overall efficiency. 14,000 kJ/kWhour is pretty typical of coal-fired generation (exclusive of the coal mining process itself), which is ~25% efficient when you do the math. Natural...

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

Well, you have to consider the full-cycle efficiency (ie: coal out of the ground, to heat, to steam, to shaft work, to electricity, ..). Once you do all the math, its not too hard to see that the full-cycle efficiency of such a 'system' is similar to that of a liquid-fuelled petrol-fired...

Celebs Are Selling Their Mansions at Rock-Bottom Prices

Why though? Surplus assets? They see the 'writing on the wall'? They're broke themselves? Want to load up on other assets that are cheaper? Expenses, taxes, and potentially angry mobs scaring them away?

Biden Spills Beans on Automaker's Full Line of New Vehicles

Ummm, joule for joule, these 'electric cars' are less efficient than petrol (gasoline) vehicles. In other words, if you need "x" amount of energy to power a gas vehicle, you'll need 1.1x to power an 'electric' car. And quite simply, the infrastructure does not exist to charge them, nor can...

The Average American Citizen Vs GS and Ilk....

GS people and their ilk can manipulate the process and steal all they want, but a lot of good it will do them when the masses are hungry, and they're staring into the business end of a firearm. Nicolae Ceasesceu (sp?) tried much the same sort of scam that is being attempted by GS and the...

Goldman left foreign investors holding the subprime bag

Doesn't Goldman Sachs get sued over this sort of stuff? Why does this outfit seem to have Teflon when it comes to the courts? Drug companies, ie: Wyeth, were essentially issued the corporate death penalty, for selling faulty products, and then lying about them (ie: fenfluramine in the case...

starting now gas prices higher than a year ago

Simple: rent deflation. Biggest cost for most people is their houses. Why interest rates are even as high as 0.25% mystifies me. They should be in the negative range, given what's going on (ie: borrowers being paid to borrow money!).

How many unemployed do you know?

I know amongst my friends who are engineers -- nearly all of them are unemployed. With little hope for finding employment. Its a real disaster out there. Some of them haven't received replies on their job applications for years. And the ones that are working, are only making $50-$60k.
