    Random walk and options?

Good link. It confirms what common sense tells us: underperforms bull markets, outperforms bear markets. By the way, this is a good rebuttal to those who say naked puts are risky. They are no more risky than holding the underlying long... If you manage size properly.

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

The "value" of any exchange-listed instrument with sufficient liquidity (ie, you're not > 10% of ADTV) is exactly what the market last traded at. You're only fooling yourself if you argue otherwise. On the other hand, a private startup business might only be "valued" once every 2-3 years...

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

And I couldn't disagree more. Speaking as an investor first and manager second... the last thing I want is someone else "protecting" me from making "irrational decisions". The purpose of a lockup should never be to force an investor to suffer through a draw-down, because the manager thinks...

    CL - V/X calendar crushed 9/9

Oh heck, that's weird enough for me to trade a small position on the spread. Did you notice front month crack spread now looks weird as well? Just to be clear... This didn't start happening after NYMEX pit close at 2:30 set, right? After equity close?

    CL - V/X calendar crushed 9/9

I show the spread at $1.50 at pit close... and didn't move much after that. What were you seeing? What happened after Globex re-opened for CL futures at 6 PM EST?! CLV soared 1% in 15 minutes on no news, and no movement in currencies or equities.

China technology - a military threat to the the US

I believe the energy required would scale equivalently to the energy required for any other sort of laser-based communication. One of the resulting "entangled" photon needs to travel to the detector, and the detector needs to be able to see it. So... don't see why it wouldn't be viable. But...

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

I agree with much of what you said... but obviously, the challenge all allocators/investors are facing is the same: how do you decide whether you should "trust" someone with your investment? By the firmness of their handshake? By the twinkle in their eye? By their own self-serving, rough...

China technology - a military threat to the the US

The message receiver doesn't actually "observe" the message... it just "is" the message. Real proof of faster than light communication... amazing. I had no idea this stuff was moving so quickly.

Can you give a little more color on this? What's driving that demand? Is it transparency due to Madoff, or something else? I have had a couple funds tell me they can only allocate to CTAs via managed account, since regulation for true fund of funds is different. Not sure how common that is.

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

Oh I disagree, re: 3-5 yr track record. I think it's hugely significant. There are a very large number of funds being founded every year... for the sake of argument, let's say 500 (new funds ranging from $10k to $100mm). Let's say all of these fund managers are actually poo-flinging...

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

The major obstacle would probably just be length of track record. Most larger investors want 3 years before they'd invest. The key is just to get those people on my distribution email list, and if I'm still around in 2 years... look them up. That said, as I think I mentioned in a previous...

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

None of the investors I've spoken to have had issues with monthly redemption. But since my fund was (officially) only initiated 8 months ago, perhaps I just haven't spoken to enough investors. I wouldn't do daily redemption either... not worth the operational head-ache. As far as 45...

    Ideal Investment Fund Terms

Hi, I can't imagine there's a single set of ideal terms. It really depends on the returns you're generating, as well as the instruments you're trading. If you're trading exchange-listed instruments, and if you're not a billion dollar fund... you really have no excuse for having any sort of...

I've made $10k playing craps, too. I don't know how his friends particular results help anyone.

options . . . very hard to make money

That's called distinction without a difference. Very few people care whether the "options market in and of itself" is anything. By the same token, the futures market as a whole is a "zero-sum proposition".

Setting up a mutual fund rather than private offering...?

For example, maybe in a year or two, I'll pay the $15k to give this thing a try: http://www.roundtableforum.com/ :)

Setting up a mutual fund rather than private offering...?

Yes, advertising is one consideration. I've been advised to register as a CTA for advertising purposes, since then I can scream my numbers + name from the roof-tops. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of working with managed accounts... but I'm told I should just set the min account size at...
