    PALM strike!

PALM, which has underperformed, has some life in it yet. If you're shorting the stock, I'd suggest covering. webOS is superior to any mobile platform. Poor marketting and poor sales have hidden this- but I interpret the Verizon price cut as a win for Palm- expect an increase in market share...

    Is AAPL significantly undervalued?

There's a few things in question here. Is apple a great company? Is it overvalued? I say yes and yes. iPad and iPod on verizon will make Apple some money, but they won't be as successful as the street believes. I think AAPL will touch $200/sh sometime this year.

Which broker has the best service in terms of execution and commision rates?

it really depends on what you're looking to do. I left Zecco, $4.50 + $.50 contracts to go to Scottrade $7.00 + $1.25 per contract I'm happy with it. Zecco i found, was not very competent, and I'm not sure that their doors will be open for business in 5 years. One thing I found is...

Trade at least once a day?

everyone has strategies that are so incredibly different. I'd advise you to learn what level of trading you feel confortable with, and where you find that you get the best results. Personally, I will only do 1 or 2 trades a week. But I'm also probably not a "trader".

    Financial innovation = ?

Buyer Beware Buyer Beware Buyer Beware. That's it. We were in a super-bullish environment in 2005-2007 and people had no concept of the risk they were taking. Also, people who act as fiduciaries, and make decisions based on massive amounts of other people's money, should have been extra...

Buying Calls/Puts instead of trading underlying?

Over the long term, holding stocks have a huge advantage over options, no loss of time value, and possible dividends.however, for what the OP was trying to do, options will work fine, but be careful.

Tail wagging the dog... dollar or equities?

well, ABC company made $1 last year selling gumballs, $3 in revenue and $2 in business cost. This year, the dollar is worth half as much. Everything that used to cost $1 now costs $2. ABC company performs the same as last year despite the dollar value tanking. They get $6 in revenue...

Selling verticals on dividend paying stocks

the main difference between selling puts and covered calls is that when it's dividend time, the covered call writer gets the dividend. I agree that the dividend doesn't help in the put selling situation. If you want to take advantage of the dividend, you'll need to be long the stock or short a...

Trading the SPY as a newbie?

you can potentially do fine, just always keep in mind the maximum loss and maximum gain for any given trade. Also, don't get so lost in your technical analysis and chart-mapping that you forget what SPY is. It's a composite of U.S. stocks. If you believe the economy will...
