Interactive Brokers to pay $700,000 to settle CFTC charges

Can you not read? Or think? IB had administrative problems... In terms of keeping track of "related" accounts... Which MAY have allowed "related" accounts to trade with each other. Yawn.

VXX a good buy at current levels?

That's more or less my take. The Vol ETF niche is so arcane and misunderstood... That just understanding the math nuances correctly... And implementing straight-forward hedging strategies... In highly targeted areas... can be worthwhile. Selling Vol is where it's at 80-90% of the...

How much trial and error is involved in fitting to a curve?

Why not just use Excel... Which has had full stats capabilities since Excel 2000... And you can easily automate, say, Excel 2007... With any .NET language. Or buy a stats control. What you are doing is trivial... 5 min in Excel. I've looked at R... And it looks like something...

    NxCore Users - scripting question

That file would be many times larger than any SSD... And real-time trading would seem to be the whole point of an expensive data feed... So a user configurable, sophisticated cache would be compulsory... One that would include a symbol table. As a software engineer... My whole problem...

What Does It Take to Feel Wealthy?

If you live in a major urban center... "Rich" today is about $5 million... You will not feel rich with $1-2 million... Wait till you get there... you will see.

    NxCore Users - scripting question

So NxCore writes directly to tape? With tape seek times added to latency? Or does it have a real-time cache on SSD... That the API can access with near zero latency for recent quotes?

VXX a good buy at current levels?

Yes, certainly noticed that yesterday... But it's all about execution and infrastructure. The following is the best advanced paper I've read in years... And includes specific approaches to making money off VXX universe. http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2043061

VXX a good buy at current levels?

The VXX is a synthetic 30 day VIX... Created by using the 2 front month futures... And adjusted every day using days to expiration as a factor. I posted a link to an Excel workbook in this thread... That does this all the way back to 2004... It is easily reverse engineered.

VXX a good buy at current levels?

Because pro traders are not gamblers as you suggest... They provide liquidity and capture spreads... You know, just like a casino. Many ETFs and ETNs have decent $0.04 to $0.07 spreads... Others have huge roll yield that can be captured... And, most importantly, they can all be easily hedged.

    2 b per month volume

I doubt that anyone takes you seriously... even your mom. No one actually capable of implementing your fantasies... Would be talking about it on ET.

What’s so special about Virginia and Maryland Muni funds?

State muni funds are real inside baseball. In general, premium/discount to NAV... Is almost irrelevant in this niche... You can assume the market has that correct... So any NAV analysis is barking up the wrong tree.

VXX a good buy at current levels?

Here's the best advice I can give you. Go and make 1,000 Vol trades... Nothing concentrates the mind like meaningful money on the line... Especially, very especially, your losing positions.

VXX a good buy at current levels?

Roll cost is extremely easy to calculate... Because both VXX and VIXY have identical hardcoded holdings formula... (VIXY is designed to be an ETF clone of the VXX ETN).... And it's running at about 10%/month recently. Roll yield is typically captured by shorting short-term VIX... While...

VXX a good buy at current levels?

Your numbers are wrong... You will have to do MUCH better than this. VXX and VIXY move together will almost 100% correlation... Chart them together in PERCENTAGE TERMS and you will see no daylight...

VXX a good buy at current levels?

And this happened in the last month? Once the Spain can got kicked down the road for a few months... And traders know Bernanke will print money 24/7 till November... There is a perception of an effective lid on volatility. They could even put off Euro Armageddon with a simple 10-20%...

Dividend portfolio with margin and hedge

The kind of dividend stocks this would work with... Stocks no one has ever heard of... Are mid to low volume and have no options trading. So start by throwing out the options... Options trading is a full time expertise... not a hobby.

The silliest bet in history - long S&P puts?

Because Central Banks have been fighting deflation for 5 years... And Central Bankers are not idiots like random internet posters... Or Perm-Bear Scammers trying to sell you gold, silver, Apocalypse, etc. If the USA turns inflationary... There will be plenty of time to buy calls.

    Lower Latency Feed than IQFeed

Since sub 1ms latency trading was a STANDARD PRODUCT... With Reuters 4-5 years ago (except in Montana)... One might assume all that 70% of volume Algo trading... Is done by a few hundred groups operating at 1ms latency... And with tech budgets that START in the low 7 figures. And it's...
