    IB TWS Question

Happened to me after upgrade to 858. Called customer service. They told me to upgrade the API version to the latest. After I upgraded to the beta version, DDE started working again. Note that you don't need to upgrade your DDE.xls file, just install the API.

    Measuring Execution Speed

thanks for your suggestion. You reminded me that my broker (IB) has a log file with ms resolution, so I can get the info from there.

    Measuring Execution Speed

Could anybody suggest a way to measure execution speed from sending a marketable order until getting confirmation. I estimate my speed to be 30-80ms. Too hard to measure with stopwatch. Besides, I was hoping to find more "scientific" measurement.

    Linda Raschke Seminar

I attended LBR's seminar 2 years ago. Until then I was a decently profitable trader. After the seminar and after I incorporated her techniques in my own trading, my performance improved significantly. I returned my investment in this seminar in few days. Her focus is on e-minis, but the same...

    IB futures options statement????

Futures options P&L was not included in the 1099C form. I don't know if it should have, but sure it was not.

    T-Bills as futures margin

Losing your money is indeed a really worst case scenario, only if your broker is so bad nobody wants to buy his customers base. T-bills, like stocks or bonds are protected by SIPC up to $500,000, I believe. Cash is not (or very small protection)

IB execute stop way above market price

This is such nonsense. I use stops all the time and never had a problem. Furthermore, I cannot imagine faster execution that what I have now. On high liquidity futures like ES or ZN, I estimate the time from trigger to execution to feedback in 10-30ms (not measured) and no chance for any...

    Best Broker

I trade CME FX futures with IB. The spreads and commissions are very low and there is plenty of leverage. I tried cash Forex through IB and wasn't thrilled, but trading FX futures with IB is great. Also keeping stocks trades and currency trades in one account optimizes your buying power.

    Have a tax question...please help...

Jango, 1. I believe you have to elect M2M IRC475 in ADVANCE. By APR15 2006 for tax year 2006. Who knows in advance if they will have profit or loss so early in the year? 2. I'm quoting for the instructions for line 1: "...List separately each transaction for which you did not receive a...

If IB's Website Contains Falsehoods, Customers are SOL

I just have one question: Why on earth trade pit contracts? ran out of things to trade? There are so many advantages to trading electronic contracts, I seriously can't think of a single reason to trade the pits.

    Have a tax question...please help...

I wish this was so simple. Well...it is for futures because P/L is reported on 1099-B, so there is no need for details (as explained in the instructions for form 6781 - line 1) What about section 1256 contracts that are not futures? for example broad-based index options, futures options or...

Meaninugless numbers in IB at night times

It is not true that "...it can never be a problem." You could trade the S&P index overnight using e-mini (ES) via GLOBEX. If you hold SPX options short overnight and something happens overnight that makes you want to hedge your position, you just can't due to this bug.

Meaninugless numbers in IB at night times

This is all very nice, but did you try to trade when your account is negative? There are many things that trade overnight and you cannot do squat. This is a serious bug and I wish IB took care of it when I complained. I'm sure it will be fixed shortly. BTW, I have a lot of respect for IB...

    naked risk

That's a great point. so we can state that as close as a stock price is to 0, naked CALLs become more risky.

    naked risk

Naked PUT is more risky because stocks tend to sell off faster then they rally. Also in many cases the the implied volatility increases when stock goes down. Case in point: GOOG BTW, the risk profile for naked PUT is equivalent to that of covered CALL (unlimited downside risk and capped...

Meaninugless numbers in IB at night times

This is the real problem: SPX index is sometimes way off (i.e 1210 instead of 1270). Since margin on SPX options is calculated based on SPX value, the margin calculation is drastically wrong. When I have a naked SPX PUT overnight and SPX is wrongly way down, my excess liquidity (available...
