Barclays coming on board as well

I disagree 100% It is something new. Barx was aimed at instituional clients. It will now be aimed at retail through Barclays Stockbrokers. It's a Barx-lite if you like. Barclay bought Schwab out in the UK and is now the country's biggest retail stock broker. It has experience of handling...

    Proposed NFA Capital Requirement

in today's column I look at two firms Titan Financial and Modern Program and their embellished marketing. Titan Financial has already taken down its claims to have won awards, which were in fact Saxo's, while Modern Program, 'a Reurpean regulated bank' (with a New Jersey office and non-existent...

    Proposed NFA Capital Requirement

Goldman took a 10% stake in CMC. Probably paid north of £100 million for it. That will change the way it attacks the US, I'm sure.

    Citi to enter retail market

I personally think Saxo is a reputable company. It's carved out a really succesful role and is probably worth in excess of $1.2 billion. Small in comparison with the likes of Citi, but huge in comparison with most US outfits. In Europe, we have not seen the same issue with all the shysters...

    Citi to enter retail market

"E trade UK white labeled SAXO's forex platform -- or so it was a few years ago -- and see what happened to E trade. Birds of feather, I suppose. I also suppose that, if this report is true, CITI must be worse off even than current conjecture." I totally disagree with that. Where would...

    Citi to enter retail market

I hear (and I have reported in my Euromoney column www.euromoneyfix.com) that Citi has struck a deal with Saxo. It will announce it's entering the retail space next week. It shows how important retail FX has become and I'd imagibne it will be welcomed by the NFA.

    "Fed's buying dollars!"

Here's an article I just found: Not sure if it's any good, but it's another one for the conspiracy theorists. http://www.energybulletin.net/7707.html

    YoursMineShag, new platform, apparently

The shutters have come down on YoursMineShag barely a year after it was launched http://www.euromoneyfix.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1330211. The company’s founder, Ron Smith-Galer, says that although it was initially greeted with widespread enthusiasm, it failed to attract sufficient liquidity...

    "Fed's buying dollars!"

"That episode in 2000 if I remember rightly on the day they hardly moved it at all although it did signal the start of the euro's recovery in the longer term.." I thiught it started to recover the moment Saddam Husein said he didn't want to receive dollars for oil, but euros. What a dealer!

    "Fed's buying dollars!"

The CBKs could still conceivably intervene. The last time they did in concert was in 2000 to buy euros. The BoJ is perhaps the last of the active inteventionists, but it has been very quiet. Certain CBKs do use the 'toys', such as EBS and Reuters. When they do, the name is given up. FX is...

    Proposed NFA Capital Requirement

I'll try and ring them all this week and ask them. IFX is now part of City Index, which white labels Saxo. CMC wants to be a global player and not sure it would pull out of US ahead of its IPO, whenever that occurs. ODL is a strange company - I know a few guys there, but don't hear too much of...

    Proposed NFA Capital Requirement

IG Group's market cap is £1.2 billion. CMC is probably worth as much as well, so they wil have no problems meeting the requirements. ODL raised £10 million in a private placement recently, so it may be okay as well. Clearly a lot of these firms will go; the rationale of the likes of...

    Proposed NFA Capital Requirement

I wrote about this in my column last February and then followed it up in the March issue of Euromoney. This is from the column: Brand new thing Reputational risk is something that is undoubtedly hard to quantify. But make no mistake, once a reputation gets tarnished, it’s hard to...

No Liquidity in today's Forex's Markets

It's the US showing its disdain for terrorism..........still, it's a lot better than having a gloomy day in the markets to make what is a sad day even more depressing. I'm sure I'm not alone in remembering exactly where I was when 9/11 occurred. My condolences to all of those affected by it.

Why negative interest for Chinese Yuan at Oanda?

Swaps are quoted in premium or discount, ie the points are added or taken off the spot, which reflects the IR differential. In this case, I think, if you buy yuan sell USD and nothing moves, when you unwind the trade you have to sell less yuan to get your dollars back.
