    Every share has a buyer?

Ahh, the market makers to make the market. That makes sense to me now. They are the last resort. Let me ask one more question then. If they are the only guy left to buy the market orders, what stops them to widen the bid/ask so large to give a $50 dollar bid to a $90 dollar stock?

    Every share has a buyer?

This is a simple question and it probably has a simple answer. I often wonder who are the people buying the shares during market crash, in 1987 or yesterday: people who need long stocks for hedging? Gamma scalpers? Dump retail investors? Every share has to have a buyer, regardless how low...

    Netflix (NFLX) vs. Blockbuster (BBI)

I am not sure how they can make money off of people like me. I used to have 3 out plan with Blockbuster. I can now exchange return envelopes with movies from the store, I found that I have too many DVDs to watch. I understand their motivation which is to increase foot traffic so people would...

    Buying/Selling Options

Bob, The difficulty of OTM flies, is you need to purchase them with a longer timeframe. The probabilities for the stock to land inside the range of the OTM fly is small. How do you catch the fly so it won't fly outside of your wings?

    Buying/Selling Options

Mav, I am still a newbi in options. This same debate is simmilar to the one between naked put and covered call. The thing that is hard for us newbies to grasp is the application, meaning, are they being traded exactly the same? Should they be? I have been watching the show, ur...

Foreign individual investors with IB ?

A relative of mine back home in Asian is thinking of using IB as the broker to do some investing/trading. There is no capital gain tax in that country, only small fees to their Trade ministry when trading locally. I have exchanged a few emails with IB customer rep. Looks like my relative...

IB - combo orders no GTC

Hi, I have been using IB for about 6 months now. I trade combo orders (Butterflies, time spreads, vertical spreads) mostly. I haven't been able to do GTC orders with these combo orders. I remember I called and spoke with one rep who told me that DAY orders are the way they handle these...

IB - no bid for combo order

I often see no bid price when I open a combo order, specially with butterflies. If I go over to the optionsXpress site and I can see both bid and ask prices for the same fly. For example, this is WLP 70/75/80 July call fly. In IB today, I got no bid, and ask was $2.85. The market is...

what is the problem of butterfly strategy ?

Trying to bring back an old thread about butterflies. I found it difficult to get reward/risk less than 3:1 ratio for a long butterfly that is < than 45 days till expiry if I trade non-directional. Riskarb, in order to get 5 or 6:1 reward/risk, do you trade directional on these flies...
