does anybody manage a book of options in interactive brokers

I don't trade options much except for hedging sometimes but when I do I use OptionsOracle by SamoaSky. You can also use their online tool which is in many cases better than the offline tool, and it also has free live data which is updated at a reasonable pace. You can design the legs and move...

Park spare cash in IB account

So basically you are saying you can sell the EFP at bid and wait for expiration at which point you collect the premium. But what is the premium in general? It would make sense that the "ask" would be at 0 after expiration, so to speak, so is it too simplistic to assume that and just say you...

Exits a lot more complicated than entries

I didn't spot the 84 days in the past. If that's the case, then yes, it's definitely a curve-fit and jcl is right.

Exits a lot more complicated than entries

Not neccessarily. If you could simplify the math of the exit tremendously and still have almost the same exits, then it might be a valid discovery. That's not always the best way to discover curve-fits, but it's possible that in this case it is. You need statistics.

    Anyone coding in Assembler?

Uh, actually it is theoretically possible but for example if you were only to time simple code such as "a = a + b". There are ways to convert the CLI into native compiled code and have a look there. Some people have done it. In some cases the .Net functions will match the speed of C++. If you...

    Anyone coding in Assembler?

I don't really have to provide an example myself, there are a lot of posts on the net regarding the screwups of C compilers. On the other hand, I agree on some points with amazingIndustry. Having coded in C# for a long time, there are certainly ways to make it almost as fast as C++. The...

Societe Generale betting on Euro collapse?

In some European countries which are not in the Eurozone, SocGen banks are calling credit holders who have their credit denominated in the Euro currency. They are asking them to convert the credit to the local currency of their country, and they are quite desperate to do so, even openly saying...

How long will you be trading?

I want to earn enough cash to start a research and development company and give back to society. Sounds naive but that's the plan right now. Depends on a lot of things, but I'd like to do something real and productive one day instead of just moving money from one virtual database to another. I'm...

Stocks to own if a big solar storm hits

You'd have a hard time owning stocks electronically or doing anything with them if the grid is down, so will the computer networks be. I'm not sure how many brokers are equipped with AM radio stations to receive orders. Currencies would devalue because of the chaos, so I'd say own gold, and...

    NERDS on Wall St.

I have an idea. Let's make some exchanges allow fist fights where whoever wins gets to post the bid and the ask. Call it MMFightClub, prime time on TV.

Need to fully automate my system

Most of the scripting languages are equally "easy" (or difficult) to learn. It just depends which ones sit well with you. You would still need to learn one. MultiCharts has EasyLanguage which is pretty well covered and widespread, so it's a good suggestion. Try learning to code in it and if it's...

Beginner's question - when to stop?

Good job at reviving a month old thread. There's not clear answer to the OPs original question without him investing some serious time in trading and research. It's not black and white, it's white, gray, more gray, and some black. It's clever to make it black and white but that requires...

    What comes after EUR?

I think we might have EURO1 and EURO2, where EURO2 is a devalued currency for the other countries. It would make sense that they keep it devalued at something like a constant 2:1 or 3:1 if it gets worse. Get rid of your Euro savings today, it just got a boost recently which is still unrealistic...

    ThinkorSwim vs IB

For the little option trading I do, I use IB to execute and Option Strategy Builder to visualise. It's free and has live vols data, but only stocks options. Go there, design it, look at the curves, create the legs in TWS and send. The rest of the complex stuff you should keep in your head or...

    What visa needed ?

It won't be considered your real work since you aren't employed legally. The only thing that may be questioned is that if you open a bank account in the UK and you start withdrawing money from it a lot, the tax people might come knocking on your door and ask you for a % of that. I haven't heard...

How can such a gold arbitrage exist?

I think that speaks more about the unavailability of a good exchange for Yuan-Dollars.

Simple question: premarket trading and gaps

For Stocks, it may be relevant to look at the first 1-minute bar of the pre-market trading session and compare that to the first 1-minute bar of open trading hours. Scale with volume and you might get some data. The reason is that these are the on-market-open algos that usually trade momentum or...
