I have a similar situation where I run live IB w/Ensign on one machine and my simulated account w/QT on another machine (one for futures and one for stocks [different time frames]) and also compare occasionally and have never had an issue with the simulated feed.

Yes, very easy to do. On the chart properties form, properties tab, you can set the right margin the # of pixels you would like. You can even save your altered version as the default for any new charts.
