by finding out your motherboard and chipset etc. you can see what the best available cpu is for you to upgrade to. if you have a p4 I doubt your motherboard will support a core2duo. Perhaps a xeon would work on your board though and they are dual core and 64 bit capable.

download a program called cpuz. Find out what chipset your computer has along with your motherboard info. You may be able to simply upgrade your cpu and the amount of memory you have to solve your problems unless you are really set on a whole new computer.
