TSLA Earnings - it pops 10% - up $30.00 during AH.

You mean single order suffers more loss in value than vertical spread order due to vega? (I'm still struggling to understand all the implications of Greeks in various option set-ups.)

    Yesterday's mid-day push

Thanks for the reply. I'm just a small timer beginning to learn trading seriously. What traits are better suited to short term and intra-day trading?

    Yesterday's mid-day push

Wonder if algorithm trading bots or coordinated / prearranged maneuver by big players have anything to do with such well-synchronized large moves.

i have one question for the options theoreticians here at et about the value of options.

Wow, good morning. Do you get up this early every day (4 a.m. central time)? How do you prepare for the trading day? (I'm about to take a 2 hour nap / sleep)

Thanks for the reply. My naps are sometimes as long as, if not longer than, my sleep, and often more invigorating. I've got a sleep disorder.

TSLA Earnings - it pops 10% - up $30.00 during AH.

There are now reports that Elon Musk's petulance during conference call has been responsible for the sudden deep slide in AH trading. If cult mentality has been the reason for TSLA's high valuation, then Musk has probably done the greatest disservice to Tesla and its shareholders. I'm beginning...

TSLA Earnings - it pops 10% - up $30.00 during AH.

What do you consider to be the drawbacks of vertical spreads compared to single long call or long put positions? It would seem that for small expected moves, a vertical spread would help reduce the cost of a position.

Thanks for the reply. I take it you'd rather trade credit spreads in this case? To take advantage of the high IV premium? W.R.T. closing the vertical spread trade and opening a new long put position, wouldn't that be roughly the same as simply closing the short leg (buying back the 280 put)...

TSLA Earnings - it pops 10% - up $30.00 during AH.

A question about trading vertical spreads. Suppose you buy a TSLA May 18 $300 Put and sell a May 18 $280 Put today, and TSLA goes to $280 at some point tomorrow, and looking to go lower, do you close the trade right away, or close just the short leg? Now suppose TSLA trades against me, what...

    Yesterday's mid-day push

Any knowledgeable / connected trader care to share some insight / opinion about yesterday's sudden, across-the-board upward push starting at around 1:40pm? What entity / entities did that? I was watching SPY, DIA, AMZN, FB, NFLX, GOOG, CAT, BA, ... they all started to jump at the same time.

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

I wonder when and at what price range Apple management would initiate the buyback.

Directional Trading and Options and Straddles

I totally agree that TSLA options are expensive. Doing vertical spreads on both sides would help reduce the cost at the expense of reduced profits in case of a big move. TSLA is reportedly the most shorted, and one of the most followed stock right now. A lot of bears are betting big, with some...

TSLA might be a straddle candidate. Q1 earnings (or losses) May 2 after close.

    $TSLA

not much discussion on TSLA's May 2 earnings announcement after close. is it because few people here are interested in trading TSLA, or it's too risky? TSLA is the number 1 or 2 most shorted stock right now.
