Buy to Open, Sell to Close

So you've bought a put on a company. When you're selling to close, does this mean you are exercising the option, buying the underlying stock, and then selling it to close your position?? Just a yes or no will suffice. Answers will be greatly appreciated.

I should have gone with the 5$ put. But I'm thinking I'm pretty happy I got in on this trade.

There's little chance that I will lose all 120, if anything. And I have to wager so much to offset OX comissions.

DAY 1: Tuesday, April 27, 2010 Bought 3 NBG 2.5 Puts at (35$ Each) P/L on this trade so far: (-120) Comments: I normally wouldn't buy an OTM put for the next month, but I think Greece will make a larger recovery than expected and didn't want to burn into what I think will be a...

Buying a Stock and Selling a Put

The most I can lose is 200$ per contract, and that's if the stock plummets. Take a look at this stock. You would be aggressive too. It's not a naked put if I own the stock...

JMBA. I expect exactly this to happen. Should the put be ITM? I'm thinking my graph doesn't factor in assignment, into my profits.

    Balancing It All

The mantra I have is: "If you do what everyone won't do for a short time, you can do what everyone else can't do for a lifetime." Everyone else is buying surfboards and wasting their time while I'm saving and investing a little bit of time now for smooth sailing later :D

OptionsXpress for one... well I assume it's not a margined account. I don't have to keep 2k+ in but it's considered a "level two"..

    What Happens If...

You sell a call/put, get assigned, and don't have the money in your account to pay for it? And you don't have a margin account?
