    One more newbie question

Thanks for the reply. So you're talking about two ticks total slippage on a round trip?

    One more newbie question

I'm an equities swing trader, but I'm looking at doing NQ daytrading on the side, and I'm backtesting some strategies that involve doing all trades at the close of 5-min bars. I know these types of questions have been asked to death, but how difficult is it to get trades in at the close of a...

The mistake you made was in assuming a younger distribution! ::p

POLL: Are you a home run champ or a batting average champ?

Nassim Taleb (the guy who wrote "Fooled By Randomness") is probably the consummate homerun hitter. I read an article about him in New York Magazine that described his hedge fund strategy. He basically concluded that although the odds of a catastrophic market event is mathematically small, in...

    The Traders Age? :)

Based on the 86 votes so far, I calculate the average ET active member age to be 35.4 yrs. Thank goodness -- that means I'm just below average (age wise, that is; though probably intelligence wise as well). Also thank goodness because I was afraid that this site was just a bunch of...

Has anyone heard of Disk Trading Ltd. for historical NQ data?

Thanks. Based on the quality of their website I was getting the impression it was two guys in their mom's basement.

Has anyone heard of Disk Trading Ltd. for historical NQ data?

Thanks NKHOI! The latter seems a lot less suspect than Disk Trader.

Has anyone heard of Disk Trading Ltd. for historical NQ data?

I'm a newbie e-mini trader, still trying to come up with some strategies, and I've been searching for at least a year's worth of NQ intraday 5-minute bar data for backtesting purposes (I'm not high-tech; I'm looking for data that I can upload into Excel). My goal was to find it for free, or...

    trading on a shoestring

Just found a thread that directly addresses my question -- http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11012&highlight=how+prop+firms+make+money Please disregard my previous question.

    trading on a shoestring

Total noobie follow-up question, but how do prop firms make money? Percentage of your gains? Trade commissions? Thanks.

What lapse of discipline pisses you off the most?

I should've added that as a selection in the poll. I've done that several times, and I've always gotten screwed.

What lapse of discipline pisses you off the most?

For me it's leaving money on the table, rather than losing more money than I should have. Such a mentality definitely screws with how selective I am with my discipline.

I have never seen a better trader than

Just based on the 32 trades posted on his website and dating back to 4/9/02 (assuming you were to close all open trades today)-- Average Gain -- 8.84% Winners -- 25 Losers -- 7 Winning % -- 78% Average Winner -- 14.40% Average Loser -- (11.01%) You're right JesseJ. These are horrible...

I have never seen a better trader than

Jesse J -- No offense, but just give it a rest. Everyone gets your point. Despite MrMarket's self-glorification (which I think is hilarious), his accomplishment is impressive. Even if you include his losers, you still would've made money on his picks (roughly 8.35% average gain per trade...

Soloflex & Home Gyms in General

I agree on the stationary bike. I hop on mine 30 min/day and I can still watch my monitors, CNBC, and get some reading done to boot. As far as the weight training, I got 150Lbs of dumbells, which provide a lot of resistance with minimal weight (so you don't need a spotter) and you can work...

Can a Graduate Degree from Oxford U help me get a salaried position in trading?

What's so amazing about this and other posts I've seen from you is that it's clear that you've already made up your mind what the answer is to your original question, and that you're only looking for confirming responses from ET members. Even when people who apparently know what they are...

Is it worth it to pony up $200 more for a Pentinum4 laptop instead of an AMD?

I was wondering the same thing, though I'm in the market for a laptop. ET has a review of AMD here http://www.elitetrader.com/ha/guide/index.cfm?s=12&t=60&p=2 The author states "Many traders have asked about the suitability of the AMD Athlon for a trading workstation. Having built several...

I have never seen a better trader than

Good point, but wouldn't it be better to set a protective stop, get stopped out, and, if you still like the stock, reenter at a lower price? The longer you hold a losing stock, the higher the bar is set for you to exit. I give you credit for your system, and for sharing the specific steps...
