    Top 100 Trading/Investing blogs

Can you tell me what I've missed? One thing is, though, I don't like looking at TA blogs. Most of the blogs on that list are stocks/fundamentals oriented.

    Shadowing activist hedge funds/13D filings

AAA, thanks for the post. Its a difficult strategy to test since sometimes someone is active in a 13D filing, sometimes a DFAN14A and sometimes files a 13D but is never active. I've tried the following test: going back to Jan 2002, take the first 5 13D filings each month that appeared to be...

    Shadowing activist hedge funds/13D filings

What activists did you study? RIght now I tend to look at Steel, VA Partners, SAC, Icahn, and a few others.

    Shadowing activist hedge funds/13D filings

Well, fortunately you can do that (without telepathy) by reviewing not only the 13D filings but the 13F-HR filings at sec.gov. For instance, at stockpickr.com here's the top 20 holdings for Carl Icahn: http://stockpickr.com/portfolio.php?id=469

    Shadowing activist hedge funds/13D filings

I've been writing/investing around the idea of shadowing activist hedge funds and their 13D filings (filings when they accumulate more than 5% of a company with the intention of communicating with management to enhance shareholder value). The idea is to get in at prices lower than the...

    Feasting on Amaranth's portfolio

They will certainly be getting redemptions that will cause them to see off otherwise good stocks irrationally.

    Feasting on Amaranth's portfolio

Amaranth, the hedge fund that is blowing up, is probably going to be forced to liquidate several billion dollars worth of stocks. I'm noticing most of the stocks in their portfolio: http://stockpickr.com/portfolio.php?id=364 were down pretty big yesterday. Either they are shorts now...

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Lets face reality: John Henry has balls of steel. The guy was negative in his first two whole years of business and he still went on to build a billion dollar fund business. That takes a certain grit that I know I don't have. I would've ended up sweeping floors at Home Depot after year one...

Yes or No:"Fully hedged portfolios are not risk free"?

There's a great saying. Putting on a hedge equals: "Twice the risk for half the return".

    Best books for system design?

if you want a book on systems and system design, Trade Like a Hedge Fund, by me, is pretty good and I think is still very applicable.

List of 5 Traders Worth Studying

Warren Buffett is easy to study but I think the best course is "Trade Like Warren Buffett" (shameless self-promotion) which demonstrates that he is more of an active trader than a value investor. Stevie Cohen can be studied in the book "Stock Market Wizards" Jim Simons is more difficult...

List of 5 Traders Worth Studying

#1. Warren Buffett - when he was making his biggest leap in net worth (from 1956 to 1970) he was an extremely active trader/abitrageur. Nobody has been more successful, before or since. #2. Stevie Cohen - 30%+ a year on billions, AFTER his 50% performance fee. #3. Jim Simons - same as #2...

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Thank you for quoting my book. Fortunately, the system you refer to is one I developed for equities and not one that is used by any of the trend followers out there. nor would the system in the book work if you had a billion dollar fund, like the Henrys of the world. As for my fund, please...

where to look to invest in quantitative hedge funds

Check out iasg.com. They list all the CTAs, many of whom are systematic or "quant" traders.

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Maybe I should pose my argument a different way: Would I allocate money to trend following funds right now? Absolutely not. I've been saying this in writing since 2003 and the results of the major trend followers have proven me correct. Would I recommend someone start a trendfollowing...

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Yes I have made a dime. Even more than that - I've made enough for an entire cup of coffee. And absolutely not. I would never think of charging fees. Horrors!

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

This whole thread is getting boring. Yeah, he's a billionaire. He had a great run for many years, built up his assets to the point where he makes $50-100mm on fees alone each year - and hasn't made a dime for anyone since. In fact, some of his funds are probably net cash negative at this point...

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Yeah, your charts prove it. A. the drawdowns are immense and look to me like investors in some of those funds just saw several years of profits lost into the ether. B. You didn't put up Henry and Dunn or Quadriga - probably the 3 funds most in the media. Thanks.
