Can you keep sanity day trading?

The closest analog there is to trading for a living is starting a small business, odds are you will not make it and you will lose all your capital. The biggest difference between holding a day job and running your own small business/trading for a living is certainty. With a day job you have...

What is going on with the Federal Reserve ?

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/01/02/intl_business/apple-china-sales-economy/index.html First casualty, certainly won't be the last.

    Late to the game

Someone who thinks that daytrading is a 1-2 hour daily job and he probably expects to double/triple his account every year .

What is going on with the Federal Reserve ?

50% of S&P500 revenues come from outside the USA, how did you think US corps made all those obscene profits without globalisation? Also AAPL's gross margins wouldn't be anywhere near 60% if Iphones were manufactured in the USA instead of some 3rd world country. Its Trump's attempts to...

What is going on with the Federal Reserve ?

Trump's trade wars is the cause of all this volatility, the fed is only partly to be blamed. The way Trump thinks about economic growth and trade is that it has to be a zero sum game, but nothing can be further from the truth. China was responsible for 27% of global growth in the past few...

    Is scalping still profitable?

This is the most conducive environment for intraday scalping in many years, anyone who is unable to make money with this volatility/range ought to quit trading.

    2014: The Battle for Survival

Most likely got killed trying to fade strong trends again, this is not the first time this has happened and it certainly won't be the last.

Moot point. You lose less money if you have less of your TLNW in your account but you also make far less than you should (when you do make money).

What to do with my life?

Yep I was just about to say that some people are confusing trade size with capital at risk. Trade size is certainly not = capital at risk, at least not all the time. A day trader who is trading something that is extremely liquid can usually limit his loss to a predefined % of his total capital...

What to do with my life?

You completely missed the point. Its not about making more money or less money, its about capital preservation. You can have an edge and still blow up with bad position sizing/money management, for example a trader with an incredible 80% win rate can still blow up if he risks 20% on every...

    Blowouts

Yep live by the sword die by the sword. Nobody can turn a 10k account into an 800k account without taking some crazy risks and leverage, these guys will ALWAYS blow up at some point, its written in the math.

    Blowouts

This is the result of poor risk management and position sizing, which happen to be basic skills for a competent trader. I too sold TLRY naked calls when it was trading at around $200, but I sized it in such a way that I would lose no more than 5% of my account even if the stock went up to $400...

Under Oct lows so the spread is well in the money now, plan to hold this until we hit 2530, a close above oct lows would stop me out.

We were obviously talking about higher time frames, BTFD pretty much only works if the market consistently makes HLs and HHs.

    ES Journal - 2017/2018

BTFD has worked flawlessly for nearly a decade, most have been conditioned to do this no matter what the charts say.

Exactly. Going long in Dec after the trade war truce was the "easy trade" but we know that easy trades rarely make anyone any money, I think we see a retest of Oct lows, minimum. I'm playing this with a bear spread.

What % of your income/net worth goes into the trading account?

The only investments that guarantee you interest annually with zero loss of capital are CDs and treasuries (if you hold them till maturity anyway), a skilled trader should have zero issue beating the risk free rate, unless he doesn't really have any skill to begin with.

What % of your income/net worth goes into the trading account?

Roughly 95% of my liquid net worth is in my trading account (which funds both my long term positions and short term trading). I can never understand why any trader who has no near term financial commitment would want to put his money elsewhere... unless he doesn't trust himself to properly...

    You're a Liar

Exactly. This Oct has been one of my best months ever, without which I would have only done ok this year, nothing fantastic, probably a little over 10%.

Who was affected by cme outage today?

Yeah its retarded for them to not halt trading when some traders still had access to the exchange. I had a large CL short position on and I was going to flat the position at pit close but couldn't do it due to the outage, was forced to cover at a much higher price in the end, reducing my profit...
