XP Pro Desktop remote assistance question

I had a problem getting quotes from my broker last week, and their tech support was able to access my pc remotely while troubleshooting. I just went in to disable remote assistance and remote desktop, but the boxes to allow these two functions were already unchecked. How is this possible? I...

    Laptop CPU comparison

I'm looking at two nearly identical low end laptops: 1) Celeron M 540(1.84GHz), FSB 533MHz, 1 MB L2 Cache. 2) Core 2 Duo T5250(1.5GHz, FSB 667MHz, 2MB L2 Cache($100 more). The latter seems like it might offer the best performance, given the dual core and other stats, but thought I...

    Connect to specific IP address?

I have lately been encountering a problem getting real time data from my brokerage firm(quotes sometimes get disconnected). Restarting the program, PC, or disconnecting/reconnecting modem do not solve the problem. I have a DSL connection, and do not use a router. In pinging five of the...

    Router recommendations?

Thanks, Abe. So most wireless routers can also be wired? If I were to use it as a wireless I would be a little concerned about security. How far away can these signals be picked up, and how much of a concern should this be?

    Alternative to DTNIQ?

Just as a follow up for anyone who might come across this post, I have been using Quotetracker, which is free, with some small ads, which you won't likely notice. Just $7.00 a month to remove the ads. It's a very good basic charting program, and glitch free, which must use data from another...

    Router recommendations?

I have no experience with routers, want to add a laptop to my system. Any recommendations for a basic but reliable wired(not wireless) router? Thanks.

    "Always on top" utility

Thanks for the suggestions. Supermax, I tried Always On Top Maker, but can't get it to work. I open the program, click on a chart, press CTRL-ALT-T, a beep sounds to signal the program is working, but the chart is not "always on top." Any ideas? Thanks. Alan

Anyone recommend a good utility to keep charts "always on top" when other windows are opened, free or otherwise? Thanks. Alan

    Alternative to DTNIQ?

I'm not clear about how this works. They do not provide a platform, just the data?

    Alternative to DTNIQ?

Just nasdaq and New York stocks. I don't need anything sophisticated, just basic charting will do. Thanks.

    Alternative to DTNIQ?

My year's subscription to DTNIQ is about to expire, just wondering what equally inexpensive alternatives might be out there for basic real time charting. Thanks.

This sounds good. I too like to keep things simple. Thanks.

    Failed Acronis True Image restoration

Not sure what you mean by imaging... I did a full and several incremental backups. I can see the value of mirroring a hard drive to protect against a hard drive failure, but how would it help you if files become corrupted? My idea was to be able to go back to a functional state should a virus...

    Failed Acronis True Image restoration

I attempted to restore my C drive with Acronis, taking the backup from a second drive. At the end of the process it said there were errors, operation failed. Now I cannot open True Image to try another earlier restore. Shortcuts to most programs on the desktop now look different, and I am...

    Traders with bad backs!

I do an ab routine to strengthen my back(Abs of Steel, or something like it, should work). Three times a week, for about five or six minutes, is all it takes. When I do it consistently I forget about my back. When I go a couple of weeks without doing it, sitting in a chair can be quite...

What do traders do for health insurance?

I have a catastrophic($5K deductible) that shields me from anything major. It costs about $900 a year. Lower deductibles are available for a little more.
