Looking to trade professionally, directly with the banks

Banks opening prime brokerage lines are less willing to deal with individuals (in my experience) even with significant means behind them (2 million+) There are some (RBS for one) who have been a little more lenient in this area in the past but I think even they are upping their requirements...

Looking to trade professionally, directly with the banks

The problem with dealing with ODL or any other second tier prime broker is that you will be paying another level of fees (their fee plus the prime broker fee) as opposed to going to the prime broker (bank) directly. I realize some people don't have the capital to open directly with a bank and...

    Hotspot retail: rollover costs

You cannot place orders (s/l, limit, oco) on the institutional platform. It is execution-only. In my experience the limitiations expressed regarding entry of orders on the retail platform are only guidelines and I have only been rejected once when attempting to put a s/l order in as the...

    Hotspot retail: rollover costs

That's strange. I remember looking at their retail demo for 3 months before opening an account. I would call them if you have been cut off for any reason.

    Hotspot retail: rollover costs

I haven't looked at their demo in some time but I understand that the prices on the demo are now the same as the prices on the live platform.

    Execution Question - MBTrading Forex

I understand that the possiblity exists but in my experience the only time I have received a fill greater than 2 pips away from my level was after big news announcements (eg NFP) and then it has been on the order of 4 or 5 pips max.

    Execution Question - MBTrading Forex

Lon both ECNs I am familiar with (Hotspot and IB) won't execute a stop until the market goes bid or offered at the target price, so it really doesn't matter if the spread widens during the Asian market.

    Hotspot retail: rollover costs

Thank you for your kind words, I have been trading in FX for nearly 20 years and I realize most people on this board are a little undeducated in the ways of the professional market and I'm just trying to dispel some myths. It actually amazes me the prices, etc that retail traders are getting...

    Hotspot retail: rollover costs

I don't have any complaints. The spreads are as good as any I have seen and liquidity is more than I would ever need. Platform stability has never been an issue in the 4 years I have been dealing with them. Only complaint is not being able to leave contingent orders, but alot of single bank...

    Hotspot retail: rollover costs

I trade with Hotspot and have been running some positions in Eur. I just checked my log from last week and their EUR/USD swap was 0.67/0.64. I believe that is pretty much an interbank rate.

Anyone making half a million and up a year trading only forex for a living

My last interbank dealing job was a little more than 5 years ago and my budget then was $2.5 million net of brokerage (don't forget that brokerage) and I would pay nearly $700K a year in brokerage.

    Market Maker at HotspotFX

Hotspot is a true ECN broker. They state what should be stated by all currency ECNs. Technically, you are trading on bank's prices using Hotspot's credit lines with the bank, since you as an individual does not have a credit line with the liquidity providing bank. The bank sees Hotspot acting...

which forex company gives offers the tighted pip spreads

Usually wider than that. Banks widen prices when major news announcements come out. Maybe 3-5 pips.

    Market Maker at HotspotFX

I have worked as a market maker at major banks and I also trade on Hotspot so I will try to answer you as best I can. 1. Most of the time you widen your spread. It rarely suits a market maker to drop their prices totally. There is a great opportunity to make money as a market maker when...

    IB accrued interest

On the surface the Oanda policy looks great to retail traders who think the "complex and outdated" swap method is costing them huge money, but one must realize that this is still the way the market operates outside of Oanda's little world. Oanda is carrying the positions and they have to roll...

    IB accrued interest

I would ask them for a copy of the swap spreads they use for each pair when doing their rollover. This is the only way you can tell whether the company is taking advantage of you. If they won't show that to you I would take my business elsewhere. FYI 3 days GBP should be about 0.1 of a pip, not...

What was Forex like before the EUR?

Germany was the main proponent behind the EUR. God I miss the old days of USD/DEM and all the crosses. There was alot of volatility in the old EMS crosses. DEM/FF for example. Intraday ranges were alot greater too.

need size? auto-quoting up to 100mio on all majors

No worries. BTW it seems to me that Deutsche's prices have widened a touch across the board to go along with their new ladder pricing.
