A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Sometimes the best analysis is no analysis. Haha. After you pull the trigger the only control you have is to get more, or close your position. Kinda funny when you think about it. Annnd changed my mind. I am going to offer out my cattle at -0.1750. I will buy back in for the same size I...

Here is an overview and summary of my cattle position. Having it break out from here would be a nice treat.

Finally seeing the type of behavior I was looking for in the Jun/Dec. Oil is still dropping but now its starting to revert towards backwardation. Oil several dollars lower around 60.50 and spread is sitting around 1.45 when before it was at 63.50 to be at 1.45ish, so the relative movements for...

Good quick trade for you. I am still watching it, I'm still expecting it to drop off quite a bit if only for a short time because of the way it has been trending for the last several months (up and down and up and down and up and down). I don't think I am overly optimistic that oil will just...

When I build up a larger bank roll I will start looking at those longer term trades.

Yeah. It isn't a long term hold--I'm just looking to fade it in short term. Wouldn't need it to backwardate to close in the black. I use the term "range bound" relative to how long I plan to hold it haha, so yes if you look at it over the course of several months it certainly isn't range bound.

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

The terrible-ness at work continued. Was up for 36 hours, just woke up from a short sleep. Not in the best state of mind to make any important decisions. Suffered a 8% drawdown on book from Friday's market activity, most of the damage came from the Jun/Dec CL spread; it isn't enough to make me...

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Thanks georgio, I appreciate it! Had a pretty terrible day at work yesterday and was up for about 22 hours. Got even worse when I awoke from my comatose late into the trading day to find that after I had built into my Jun/Dec up to a real position size it had moved against me (offside $0.17 on...

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

LE -Feb/+Apr still holding quarter of original position, it came off my sell point by $0.30 so I am temporarily happy from playing it the way I did. A couple CL calendars; shorting the -Jan/+Feb and -Jun/+Dec. I view the Jan/Feb as more of a noise trade just because it tends to go up and down...

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Bought a couple 540 March puts on ZW (Wheat). Another short seasonal play, didn't want the exposure to the naked future.. Don't trust the liquidity in YW and don't have the bankroll to play ZW naked (the capital preservation rule). I was also going to spread it but didn't want to limit my...

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Closed out 3/4 of short LE -Feb/+Apr @ $0.025. Total gain is $1.9250, I am happy with that. I think it was a bigger victory outside of the profit in the sense that I pulled the trigger to buy more when I wanted to pull the trigger to sell. A lesson to myself in letting winners ride and averaging...

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Cattle spread jumped up for me.. Sitting around 0.00. Might think about taking profits soon. When it dropped off a little bit and I bought more, that was a tough decision for me because I thought for a bit it might be heading back to the bottom of its range. But this was a seasonal trade, and I...

Yah. Not a fundamental play or anything just a trade. It would have to move against me A LOT before I would feel uncomfortable with it.

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Took a small short in the Jun/Dec Calendar on CL @ 1.01 after some deposits cleared into my account. Just 1 contract to have something on the go. -Feb/+Apr LE trade I made yesterday seems to be working out okay. It rebounded back up to the other day's levels, so I will watch closely and see...

Someone bumped Feb Cattle by about 3k contracts, sent spread off its highs by about 60 cents. Increased position by a third, will see how it goes from here.

A Child's Adventure into Futures Trading

Yah. I hope to see the Cattle break out of this range, if it doesn't then whatever. I'll just try and get the best exit price I can. That range seems to be tightening though so I don't think I"ll be able to retire on this trade haha. Yeah, I've made some decent coin off trading that CL Jun/Dec...

Open Positions: Short CL Jan/Feb 2015 Calendar @ 0.10... Breakeven Long LE Feb/Apr 2015 Calendar @ -1.95ish... Currently @ -0.20 My margin is at about 60% so I don't think I am going to take any new positions. I have some options positions open which are pretty much dead in the water, small...

Hi everybody. I'm just going to try and keep this short and simple. I am freshly turned 25 years old; I'm from and live in Canada. I work full time in the oil patch doing a job which allows me a lot of screen time everyday. I got an Economics degree, and realized the Economics of working in the...

    Live Cattle - Top ?

I'm long on the -Feb/+Apr seasonal play. Spread has tended to rally for this time of year, wondering if new highs will change that though or if it will play out.
