How we can fix the economy and help both the rich and the poor at once

That's very interesting, but how does it relate to this thread? Also, different industries pay very different *effective* tax rates, due to our Byzantine tax code. I stand by my argument that taxing only land and IP will raise revenue without distorting business activities, and will improve...

How we can fix the economy and help both the rich and the poor at once

Having a maximum profit is morally wrong. If I'm very successful, why should I not be entitled to the profits from my fair dealings? Tax land and IP. Tax economic rent. Taxing anything else, like production, sales, and profits, distorts the economy. If the government and the people act...

How we can fix the economy and help both the rich and the poor at once

The current taxation system distorts economic activity and creates bloated government agencies and paperwork. Taxing capital and labor distorts economic activity. Taxing investment gains discourages investments in new businesses and those existing ones that want to expand (as well as penalizing...

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

The point of storing anything is to be able to retrieve it whenever you want. Electricity can be accessed from nearly anywhere. Also, flywheels are pretty efficient at storing energy. Remember, electricity itself is not being used as a currency; the currency will be floating pegged to the...

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

Yeah, it is, because gold has a lease rate. Lots of companies, specifically gold mining companies, lease gold and sell it to finance their operations because the lease rate on gold is far lower than the interest rate on currency. I still think electricity is the best commodity to back our currency.

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

And fiat money is controlled by those who own the printing presses and collect the taxes.

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

That makes sense if fiat currency was truly an IOU. It's not. My FRNs don't promise me any amount of anything except that I can use these to settle all debts and pay my taxes.

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

Currency is always backed by something. Either by a commodity or by the government's assets or taxation power. If a government were either run out of the assets that back it's currency, have increasing debts without a corresponding increase in GDP, or be unable to collect taxes, that...

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

Well, if we combine this electricity-backed currency with a land value tax, your taxes would become much lower! An electricity-backed currency would encourage efficiency in power use, and a land value tax would encourage people to develop vacant land to raise the income needed to pay the tax...

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

How do you define "cheap"? Also, what's wrong with that?

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

    1. Considering that the currency is now backed by electricity, the electricity generation method that has the highest energy returned on energy invested (ERoEI) will eventually win out. 2. That's the point. The goal is to be a nation with a large supply of electricity, which means a large money...

We should transition to an electricity-backed currency

Fiat currency allows for no limits on either inflation or deflation, both of which are disastrous to economies. Fiat currency also doesn't actually *mean* anything, other than the government accepts it as payment for taxes (why the government would accept a worthless piece of paper as payment is...

    VXX put and call IV

Then why aren't the IVs *exactly* the same? E.g. the ABX May14 17 call's IV is 36.2%, while the put's is only 33.3%

Why is portfolio margin only available to those with >=$100,000

They're not really focused on the customer then. They should ask for a detailed description of your proposed trading strategies, goals, and methodology.

Why is portfolio margin only available to those with >=$100,000

I'm not trying to hit grand slams, just consistent singles. It would make things so much easier. Don't have to worry about maintenance margin, and would make my delta hedging so much easier.

Why is portfolio margin only available to those with >=$100,000

Hi guys! Why is portfolio margin only available to those with >=$100,000. I've never really figured out why those of us with <$100K s are stuck with margin requirements developed in the 1930s. Portfolio margin is based on risk analysis and stress-testing, so it should be less risky for the...

    Determining Greek position limits

Or I could just use IV for that, correct? Unless Silexx Obsidian Pro can do that automatically as well.

    Determining Greek position limits

What would you consider a high theta/gamma ratio, indicating I should sell said option, and what would you consider a low theta/gamma ratio, indicating I should buy said option?
