    S & P mini

Sorry, but I don't get the "monopolistic", "thieving pit traders", "death to the locals", etc. mentality. These guys are paying huge bucks to be on the floor; they either lease a seat for circa $3300/mo or buy an IOM membership for circa $277k. Then deal with the steaming, stinking, rancorous...

    Get mad if you INVEST

To add insult to injury, a lot of those sellers had friends and/or colleagues who perished in the attacks. I found that utterly repugnant.

    Daytrading and Taxes

Geez, what a joke. These people make their clients do an inordinate amount of work and all they do is put the totals on the appropriate lines of the return (hopefully). My suggestion is to get someone else to do your return or do it yourself, either manually (which you're pretty much doing...

Please Help with this tax question

There is more than one approach here. However, of paramount importance is that your Sch D totals agree with the gross proceeds reported on your 1099-B; expect a letter from the IRS requesting an explanation if they don't. Some traders make copies of the monthly statements (which show all...

    Who earns the most?

Uptik, Perhaps he's just a workaholic by nature; I think 100 is rather atypical. On the other hand, IBs have no choice but to put in those kind of hours since they're working against deadlines; they've got to get the deals done.

    Superstition anybody?

I knew a trader in the Euro pit at the CME. Wore the same tie every single day and, from the minute he walked into the building, took the exact same route to the pit. He was freaked out for months after they decided to move the pit to another floor.

    commissions per contract options broker

Sabena, Putting execution aside, Investrade is pretty low. They have a $14.95 minimum but the per-contract commission is $1.50 (e.g. 50 = 75 bucks). If you do a bunch at a whack, probably hard to beat as far as mainstream discounters go.

    Monitor purchase

Good, Fletch. Thanks. I only had one problem and that was on a laptop quite a few years ago.....bunch of them right off the bat. Otherwise, my new(er) laptop and my wife's have been fine. I would imagine they're just getting better at either manufacturing the units, quality control, or both.

    Monitor purchase

For my own edification, is there a standard dead pixel policy these days? Do the policies of NEC, Philips, Samsung, et al, differ substantially? I haven't actually seen the display but read a review of the Cornerstone f1200. From what I recall, the screen is 17.4 and has a 400:1 contrast...

    TradeStation 6 has a bug

Not exactly surprising but, whether they respond or not, fixing EL bugs does not appear to be very high on their list of priorities.

    Just joined.....no difficulty whatsoever.

Please Help with this tax question

Yes, much the same as any return. Consequently, it's certainly crucial to retain a copy of the form and any indicia of mailing.

    Ib Customer Service Sucks

We could probably spare others the names of those brokers, too. :D I know one, for instance, that has been stating online options 'were coming soon' for months now. It was only recently that I learned this will not materialize until sometime in Q3 and their commissions are a heck of a lot...

    TradeStation 6 has a bug

Yes, because if it were otherwise, all numbers should produce similar results, right? Why does .04, for example, work properly?

    Taxes for QQQ and NQ

But that doesn't have any special tax consequences, AFAIK, except in the unlikely event that the Trust is terminated. Otherwise it's just another Sch D item.

    Ib Customer Service Sucks

TallPaul, after further review, I agree back to the extent "customer service" involves merely picking up the phone or otherwise responding to an inquiry. Really no excuse for failing to give customers some sort of a reply.

    TradeStation 6 has a bug

Oddly enough, it seems to work using .01 through .04 as inputs. Using any input from .05 up through and including .10, it does not. Shocking indeed..........(yet another) TS6 bug!

Please Help with this tax question

I could be wrong on this but taxpayers filing a 3115 for procedures that are "automatic" (which includes MM) don't receive acknowledgements. You definitely must receive their permission to change back, though, in the event you ever want to do so.
