Since GainsKeeper has been mentioned in this thread, I thought I'd post here. A new version of Money (Money 2004 Premium) apparently has GK intregrated. It's scheduled to be released Thursday (7/17).

Can a Graduate Degree from Oxford U help me get a salaried position in trading?

Quote from alfonso: You'd better off putting your questions to vault.com. Sure, they're just as quick to descend on you if you ask something they consider dumb..... I think this forum is a 12-step Christian support group compared to Vault.com. (I had a fun experience there a couple of...

    The Baby Boomer

Quote from vitajex: I doubt most people would consider someone born in 1964 to be a baby boomer. The U.S. Census Bureau of the U.S. Commerce Department does, however: http://www.census.gov/population/www/censusdata/1990data.html When Douglas Coupland wrote "Generation X," he was...

    The Baby Boomer

Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 which (obviously) means the youngest have not yet turned 40 while the older boomers are several years away from 60. Further, there are over 75 MILLION Baby Boomers.................i.e. the demise of this generation is not exactly right around the corner.

    I Hate Myself

Don't get mad! Consider how much this guy must hate himself: "They're not even [within] 100 miles [of Baghdad]. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Iraq. This is an illusion ... they are trying to sell to the others an illusion."

I.R.C §1083(f): STOCK OR SECURITIES-For purposes of this part [Part VI of Ch. 1O, Subtitle A], the term "stock or securities" means shares of any corporation, certificates of stock or interest in any corporation, notes, bonds, debentures, and evidences of indebtedness....... I.R.C. §1091...

    Do traders pay FICA?

Basically, Illinois treats S corps in the same manner; there is both a franchise tax and a "replacement" tax. That, however, doesn't change the fact that state law has nothing whatsoever to do with a corporation's =status= as an S corp; it's simply an election for pass-through treatment made at...

    Joint Account Taxation

.....I asked the IRS about this and was told he may nominate me and make out a 1099 to my SSN if he desires and it is appropriate (don't really know what that means and neither did the IRS rep I talked to)..... They never do because, typically, you're talking to a level one idiot. That's one...

    Joint Account Taxation

I suspect that no one will much care for my opinion but, again, in my opinion, the only folks that should be holding joint accounts are those who will be filing joint returns (e.g. married filing jointly). The problem is amounts reported on a W2s, 1099s, et al, are not linked to amounts...

    Do traders pay FICA?

What do you mean "TN doesn't recognize S corps."? An "S Corporation" is a =federal= (not state) matter. All that's required is (a) the criteria be met and (b) the corp elects "S" status (as in Subchapter S of the IRC).

Career Advice - Let's Have Some Ideas

I believe a Pharm.D. typically takes around 4 years to complete =provided= one has the prereqs. Regardless, I have heard that, due to the shortage in the profession and resulting increase in starting salaries, applications have skyrocketed to the point where all available seats are filled...

A scoop for not paying tax :)

Well then you probably haven't yet heard of the USA Patriot Act (even though it was enacted in 2001). See, I'd bet that most of us on this forum don't care much about being "spied upon" because we're honest, law-abiding, tax-paying folk who aren't spending 98% of our time trying figure out...

Ameritrade Freetrade.com 2 years so far : Current users please respond.

I agree with the immediately preceding post. However, if you're really interested, it's a pretty simple matter to just open an account and probably the best way to determine, for sure, whether the firm will fit your needs. Here's an idea. Assuming you already have an account with IB, open...

First-year, newbie casual trader tax question

Generally, only corporations (even then, subject to certain exceptions) are allowed to carryback capital losses (3 taxable years preceding the loss). Individuals may only carry capital losses forward (see I.R.C. §1212(b)).

    IB 1099's available

Quote from def: Dear IB Customer: ......Forms 1099 are applicable to US taxpayers. Form 1042S applies to non-US taxpayers who received dividends on US stocks in calendar 2002.... Never seen anything like this; they didn't separate the NON-TAXABLE dividends from those that ARE taxable...
