HenyFord, how long have you been running your system for? It sounds like a good moneymaker.

    Trading as a Science Blog

Jack… I’m not trying to be “positioning [my]self to really help Murray out”, but rather convey that I agree with this general idea. The idea is that trading can be discussed scientifically, which as traders on this forum we must all somewhat believe to be true. If we can use the...

MSFT worst day in 4 years, ok last 15?

Agreed. Ballmer just has no clear vision for the company. The problem is that when they try and compete they always find some weird way to screw up their products. Case in point – Surface. Truly not a bad platform in general, but it’s difficult to justify $1000 US for a Surface Pro and the...

    Trading as a Science Blog

This is true, the market is a system, but systems can also be analyzed from a scientific standpoint. And it is those hypothesis tests that lead to stable, usable algorithmic trading systems. For a forum such as this to exist, we must all believe that the markets are not totally random. From what...

    Free Demo Version of TradersStudio

I’ve also not seen it before. Perhaps I’ve just forgotten about it though. It’s a very good feature to include.

    Trading as a Science Blog

I like the card counting analogy earlier. I think it applies to what I was saying before. If done well card counting can be shown to give the player a slight edge. That’s not to say that they won’t lose money on any given night (just like a casino will lose money to some players) but that in...

Why the S&P 500 will be much higher in 5 years?

I agree with the idea of there being wild swings in volatility. I know this statement is virtually always true (that volatility will change a lot during 5 years) but I think it’s something to watch out for. It seems like there are many factors now that can send the DOW soaring higher or...

    Trading as a Science Blog

I can see how trading can be viewed as a science. For a system to work consistently there must be some logical reason why it works. We might not be able to apply an exact formula to trades but generally we can quantifiably show that there are correlations in the market. That alone should let us...

    Creating own trading system

That clarification helps on how the backtesting platforms work. So in essence I guess you’re suggesting that TradersStudio typically assumes the worst case scenario and as such if I code a system that works well in it, it shouldn’t get tripped up on, say, the bouncing tick issue?

    Trading as a Science Blog

I’m interested by this blog. I’ve always felt trading tended to be more of a science and something that we can observe but I’ve never really had any evidence for this. It’s nice to see someone making an attempt at showing this to be true.

    Advice for a Beginner Programmer

That trade manager software looks really cool. It’s a good idea at least. I’m not sure that it can ever match some of the commercial software out there though. I guess only time will tell.

Buying frenzy. China bought a huge 10% of world gold output in 10 days.

Not sure if you have analysis to show this, but I doubt gold will go back down to $300 an ounce. Inflation alone would likely make that very hard to achieve.

How the Robots Lost: High-Frequency Trading's Rise and Fall

This is a good article. The comments section on the article itself is also good. The problem is that there’s so much about HFT that’s a mystery to the vast majority of people so I like seeing articles that try to shed some light on it for everyone.

Krugman: Bring back 91% tax rate

The question though is can the government keep justifying those salaries to the public? It would seem to me that if I was making $8 an hour as a security guard, some of these TSA salaries would make me really irritated.

Krugman: Bring back 91% tax rate

Just want to point out that I looked at that USAjobs.gov site for the first time and some of those salaries are insanely good. Wow… I wish I could get one of those jobs.

    AAPL has bottomed

AAPL seems to be in a bit of a rut recently. I think with some of the recent highs in the market, people are trying to decide if companies like Apple have any room to grow. It looks like it has support around $400 and resistance around $450-500. This is just from eyeballing the chart – I...

    Luck vs Skill in trading

Interesting article – I second the notion that positive thinking can lead to some awesome results. The key sometimes seems to be just always trying to move forward and think of something new. You’re not going to be a success if you just sit around all day wallowing in misery.

Tech Stock $AMD Heading For Another Trifold? : (NYSE:AMD) Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

That’s actually a possibility. I suspect the overall trend will continue to be downward but I do see a convergence happening around the $4.05 mark. The Q2 earnings release isn’t about a month away so I suppose one other possibility is that it could continue to trade around this range for the...

    old computers

I second the idea of dban-ing the drive. You need to make sure that the drive is completely wiped off. When you delete a file in Windows for example all it does is flag the file as having been deleted. It’s not technically overwritten with anything which means that file can be easily recovered.
