    Natural Gas

not entirely on topic, but I just read that UNG controls more than 25% of all nymex contracts. They're doing a 4 day roll to July, thanks goodness, or we'd have the USO roll bs happening in natty.

U.S. Gov just spent 190 million on swine flu vaccine

Swine flu: red herring. To get the stupid populace to not notice what the administration and FED are doing.

    China caught in "dollar trap"

In a dollar collapse (hyperinflation) all of your fixed rate loans go to zero too... I'm trying to keep aproximately 1:1 ratio of cash and fixed rate debt (5.25%). Not that that's my entire solution to the problem, just something that i'm doing as a little bit of a hedge.

H-P Chief Sees More Pain Ahead, Trims More Jobs

Hurd's a wiley one... He gave himself a 68% raise last year (to $42MM/year), ostensibly because he's doing such a great job running the company, and then immediately cut all the employees salaries by 5% or more and cut 401k contributions from 4% to 0% (from 6% to zero for legacy employees)...

As Smash-and-Grab Capitalism Collapses, the French Economy Shines

lol, I think those were italian rifles... They all come with a copy of the world's smallest book "Italian War Heroes."

    Citibank PISSES ME OFF!!!

so I've settled down, and have not visted any branches (screaming or otherwise). I did destroy all my citi cards and am withdrawing all $ tomorrow. I plan on doing as little screaming as possible, unless they balk at allowing me to withdraw. I may ask for cash just to make it difficult for...

    Trader banned after booze session

he traded out of it at a profit... guess that's what he gets for holding overnight... (I'm being totally facetious)

    Citibank PISSES ME OFF!!!

need to rant... I called them (citibank mastercard) this morning to find out why my gasoline transaction was declined. Turns out I had sent my May payment to my other (infrequently used) citibank mastercard account by mistake. I always pay my balances in full, have never in 9 years been...

    Newbie oil futures questions

the far out future reflects carrying costs. if the future is higher than the cost to store oil until the settlement date, you should sell the future, buy some spot oil, and store the oil like in a rented supertanker or something. (lol, obviously it's not doable for the retail level investor)...

    Short the dollar hard

^ hmmm... Ive always assumed causality the other way around; that oil moves up or down on the strength/weakness of the dollar.

    Student loan rehab question

There's a govenment associated body that does "consolidation loans" for student loans at a low interest rate. You can only do it once, but now's a good time. I did it to my undergrad loans, and I was stuck with 7.625 for many years (but at the time of my consolidation that was a really good...

    Pres Obama to the Rescue!

goodbye fun cars... At least for a while. Think the mid-seventies to late nineties, what turds occupied the roads back then... Hopefully there'll be soem cars that have potential to be made fun by tinkerers. Or like some of Carroll Shelby's econo/sports cars: hold down he radio button...

Berkshire Added to Wells Fargo Stake as Shares Fell

I agree that that smells more like Buffet's investment philosophy than to buy puts. I have a hard time marrying up this kind of behavior with his 2 cardinal rules: 1. never lose money 2. never forget rule 1 You'd think buying puts would resonate sweetly with 1. above. I remember a...

Geithner opposes caps on bank CEO pay

Best of luck to you; health and job wise (in that order). That's extremely good to hear that talented folks are getting good offers. There must be something very compelling about your track record (at something) to warrant this kind of offer. Do you mind sharing what you think it is? P.M. if...

Goldman, Morgan Stanley Said to Apply for TARP Exit

Those were trading gains. Why would they return them? If you think it was corp welfare (and I'm not saying it wasn't) why are you not demanding the return of the money "funnelled" to the Euro-banks? ^ seriously. no-one ever answers that one. P.S.: I'm just angry that I'm not long GS.

    The Great Ethanol Scam

E85 is awesome if you like high performance cars. I've seen 2 liter 4 cylinders (turbocharged) make over 500 hp on E85. It's almost as good as old fashioned 116 octane leaded gas. You have to use more of it, but if you're a motorsports enthusiast that only matters in enduro races where you...

    Gas at 2 bucks?

Found this this morning, not sure if you guys can see it. Yield Curve: Prices Respond to Storage Changes. Papa Roach: my company has some storage in Ohio, and we do exactly as you said: Well in advance of injection season we'll buy April - October and simultaneously sell November - March...

    Gas at 2 bucks?

I thought I remembered someone recently opining that gas will head back down towards 2 after this short spike up. I personally think fundamentals are pointing downwards (weather is mild, unconventional supply is huge, LNG tankers wandering around looking for a place to unload, storage nearly...

Nassim Taleb Makes Billions and Attacks Richard Dawkins

I'm having a hard time finding anything on the "black swan fund" on google. you'd think if it made billions last year there'd be at least a few people talking about it.. maybe it's called something else?

Nassim Taleb Makes Billions and Attacks Richard Dawkins

My $.02 on NT: I own 2 of his books (swan and fooled), and in my mind he deserves plenty of credibility for being a sound thinker, a competent articulator and interesting analogist. I am sure that some of his net worth comes from book sales. I am also fairly certain than he made some jack...
