    Anybody insider-trade SLM on Friday?

"Sameer Gokhale, an analyst for Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, said that Wall Street has underestimated the company's government-guaranteed loan portfolio." read: "Blue Horse Shoe loves SLM"

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the Zimbabwe Industrial Index $$$$

kind of a pointless observation... Might want to read this before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwe More specifically, this: "Inflation rose from an annual rate of 32% in 1998 to a high of 2,200.2% [3] in March 2007, a state of hyperinflation. The exchange rate fell from 24...

    2pm Minutes

Yeah.. damn it why did he have to talk about...... the economy? This is probably the single best argument the bears have right now... every bull is scared of economy talk. Pretty good argument actually.

    sorry fellas, tomorrow is DOWN

I disagree. It is true most companies servicing china as their main market will see revenues soar, but stock prices care to profits, not revenue ( msft, ge, wmt). China is a communist country, they do not support the American way of running their country, whereby corporations exploit 90% of...

    Index Futures time value

Doesn't this give someone selling the futures a slight advantage, since time value and small dividend drops work in their favour? Or is this balanced against the fact that it's riskier to short because the general trend is always up?

    Index Futures time value

Cost of carry is equivalent to option's time value? Why does it have a different name? I thought cost of carry was the cost of carrying one quarter's contract to the next, is that something entirely different?

    Index Futures time value

Do index futures have time value? For example, ES june at ~1445 while the SPX index (this is the underlying right?) is at 1437.5. If the SPX is at 1437.5 in june futures expiration date, will ES also be at 1437.5? Also, if they don't have time value, what is the advantage of stock options...

    *****NASDAQ SPIKE*******

The QQQQ is down 0.25% yet the composite index is up 0.15%, how can there be such a big difference?

VIX VXN VXD FUTURES at the CBOE

What is the cost of carry? Changing from one month contract to the next month's? How high is the cost?

VIX VXN VXD FUTURES at the CBOE

Why don't people trade VBI? What is the catch with the vix futures? I mean, since the index is predictably cyclical, it can stay at 10-12 for a long time, but it is almost guaranteed that it will rise above that at least once every year, so what is the catch to buying vix futures, how can one...

China Diversifying 1 Trillion USD Worth of Currency Reserves

Could you explain a little further please? Are they like normal securities options? What is the symbol?

The time 2 buy is now big rally coming

How can you all have so much fun bashing someone who appears to be on the wrong side of the market? I see more euforia in this thread than in the markets right now. Shame on these idiots and their "free money no risk $$$" posts, and shame on you idiots bashing them. Why doesn't a single person...

    Scalping NQ

Short question, hope you don't mind the hijacking. Do index futures like NQ have time value like options? I see that the current march contract is at 1757 while the june is at 1778. So if the index is at exactly the same point as it is now 3 months from now ( in june ), will the june contract...

Question Japanese int. rate & carry trade

If a hedge fund had borrowed yen to pay for something which gained 3% that year, for example, but the yen rose 5%, would they have to disclose the current loss taking into account the exchange rate difference, or could they just say they gained 2.5% from the spread since they haven't closed the...

Fed can not let dollar fall

I understand, but even if public opinion is favorable, economic theory shows that increasing money supply isn't that good for the economy unless it is in a recession, so I am assuming that the fed wants what is best for the economy. If we assume they do, and since we know they are good...

Fed can not let dollar fall

Also, does inflation not seriously harm domestic banks for the same reason it harms US debt holders? If they are just defending interests rather than controlling inflation, why not defend the biggest sector's interests?
  17. F

Fed can not let dollar fall

But then if the net effect on the economy is positive, that is, if the benefits from expansion of the money supply outweight the negatives of a rise in inflation, why are people worried?

Fed can not let dollar fall

Why would they risk assuring the failure of their inflation containment responsibility, for one which isn't even theirs?

Fed can not let dollar fall

But surely they are clever people, and so they know that they can not keep things this way indefinitely, in fact they already knew before they started (if they started), so why did they start it? It seems inevitable that at some point, if what you say is true, that the true statistics come out...

Fed can not let dollar fall

How is this huge increase in money supply not creating inflation? As a student, I am being taught that inflation has purely monetary causes, so there should be inflation, lots of it, how come there isnt? (not a rhetorical question, I honestly don't know.. so I hope someone can clarify)
