Thinking too much while the computer trades

May seem like a silly post, but when the computer is doing all the work and I am not busy doing something else, my mind races and sometimes I get locked in negative, looped thinking where I think about past traumas or disastrous situations. Is this just me? Over-active guilt centers? Like...

Safe route or roll the dice?

I have not been employed and have been consulting and trading. Some months are lean, but for the most part I have not had much difficulty. My only advice is that you should price in an office. Working from home is loaded with distractions.

    Prop shops and health insurance

How do you discretionary prop shop guys pay for health insurance? Does a place like Bright or Echo (or whatever) provide some sort of group plan you can pay into (full price), even if you are remote? What about pre-existing conditions?

Which country do you think is a police state?China?UK? Think Again.

I don't generally find your posts to be objectionable, but this one bothers me. I wasn't born in the US and was a naturalized citizen, but I absolutely LOVE the concept of innocent until proven guilty and the safeguards they came up with in this country. It's not perfect. If we resorted to 5...

I would like to learn how to trade copper.

I am an experienced algorithmic equities trader, but I would like to learn how to trade copper. By learning to trade, I mean, I would like to figure out how to analyze the fundamentals and have copper positions for extended periods of time and possibly also as an investment (either long or...

    What is happening to men?

I never said anything about blaming women. I'm just saying that at your age, their loss-function (i.e., acceptability criteria for someone who isn't perfect) is optimized differently. Ultimately you are not viewed the same now (vs. then) because the women in your peer group have new variables...

    What is happening to men?

I highly doubt it has anything to do with your personality, although I am sure you are nicer now than you were at 19. These days, it has more to do with your odds of having health benefits and living in a manner that isn't paycheck to paycheck.

    What is happening to men?

I love this analysis so much I want to frame it. Except that I don't think women are genetically inclined to be irritating or are born that way. I think what you are describing is strictly an American phenomenon that is spreading throughout the world. Women are not raised correctly in the...

    What is happening to men?

This disparity does not exist in engineering. Or math. Though oddly, there were more women in applied and pure math than even engineering.

    Risk Management Tools

It was an open-ended question because someone asked me what I use and I didn't know how to answer, other than to say just in-house tools.

Do you guys author this stuff in-house, or do you use specific software packages for this stuff? Anyone care to comment?

Getting data from IQfeed or Esignal API into a C++ container/array

Don't even have to do that in .NET; you can just import the COM interface and add your delegate to their event properties for the callback. Truly lazy-mode -- it's great.

Getting data from IQfeed or Esignal API into a C++ container/array

I've looked into the tradelink source code -- for retail traders, it is a resource beyond just the package itself. You don't have to use tradelink to get the value from it. Their code is so high-level, it's a trivial matter to pinpoint how the feed interfaces work. You can just "cut" the code...

    Algo trading study resources?

Who do they take money from? That's a good question. I don't think this will drop into a scenario where all the firms are just taking money from each other, because participants are generally smart enough to figure out when they aren't winning their poker game anymore. The HFT participants...
