Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Whether or not a hedge fund category exists as a viable strategy is whether or not the allocators deem them to be viable. I can tell you that the fund of funds do not want to allocate to the trend followers after 2004-2005. I know a trend follower personally. He has a great track record...

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Altucher's fund management company had assets under management of $55,600,000 in 2005 as listed on the form ADV. Nothing to sneeze at. I would love to be in a position like his someday. I think Altucher is an inquisitive market thinker who is undoubtedly successful. You don't generally...

IB ehich clears through RJ Obrien

$4 per side plus $1.14 routing fee per side. It does seem high, I have never seen an order routing fee stated before. Also $4 per side seems high as well for e-mini.

    Xpresstrade

I traded with them in the past and had a good experience. At the time they were an introducing broker for ADM but they are now an FCM but I saw no difference in the level of services offered. I always liked the ability to access so many global markets and I traded pit markets in Chicago and...

Althucher guesses: trend funds to disappear within the next 10 years...

Altucher is correct about money flowing out of trend following strategies in the CTA/CPO world. I do think there willl be funds close and new entrants into the field will be curtailed. There is a lot to learn from these trend followers but the fund of funds that allocate money absolutely hate...

<b>"Secondly, if you can get a fund raiser that focuses not in the major money centers, they would have an easier time raising money. I know an Italy based banker that raised $38M in the span of 8-10 weeks for a fund. "</b> This is an important aspect. Here in Colorado I am starting a RIA...

    Wash trades - legality?

Your right I was thinking and reading wash sale not wash trade my brain just skipped and replaced trade with sale. Wash trading is not something that the brokers look nicely upon. If you read your terms and agreements from your broker it will probably state that it is not allowed.

    Wash trades - legality?

you can wash trade all day but you can't claim the tax benefit. Wash sale rule is an IRS section code law. The SEC isn't going to send you to jail for it. Your brokerage firm (depending on your designation) may not want you trading against yourself by using a different account though.

OIL: Gurus told me demand decreases as price increases

Hasn't the price gone down? In September Gasoline was $3.00 plus and oil was near $70. The price for distillates has come down and therefore demand has gone up. We are probably at the low end of the price range to ensure that supply is able to meet demand.

    Futures pit trading: which broker?

I would look at Refco, and Man, and since Man has taken over Refco accounts it it sorta the same. Although they are still operating seperately. If you want to trade New York Commodities definitely get a broker that clears trades on those exchanges, like Refco and Man. You want a large pit...
