How long before you were successful?

Can some one chime in here just so I can get a clear understanding of what a tick is. In CL future a 1 hundredth move is equal to $10, correct? Is this considered a tick? Or is a tenth considered a tick or is 1 full point. Example. I made a trade at 52.80 long. Set my sell stop order at 52.75...

I was thinking I didnt need $25k to trade stocks and etfs because I didn't plan on making more than 4 trades a week. not at first. I believe I read the rule wrong. Your perspective gives me a lot to think about. I'm gonna start focusing on using stops at the exact points I know I'll use later...

Thanks for the input. The worst thing about that thread was the whole "you can't trade futures" with a small account thing that a lot of people said. I'm starting to see that a small account is a problem in of itself.(possibly). Looks like I'll be using etfs and stocks, to build my account...

I just read the "don't use stops" 63 page thread. WTH? :banghead: Talk about a cluster F. The masses stated to use them, but I will say I'm interested in using one of the other methods to possibly protect a position as well.

It did end up turning around. +$780 and hit my profit target. This will be a good trade to study for me I think. I was never down more than a few hundred and a small account could have handeled waiting on the turn around. Still would like to have not had so much of a pull back.

I was just looking on my phone app. I hadn't changed it, it was set at that by default. I don't use it really, I have been useing trade view 15 min chart when I've been trading.

Nevermind, when you said smooth, it made me think. I was looking at a 5min chart.

Can you answer me this.....in the over night......why do the charts look choppy and scattered. Is it because there is low volume?

Do you use stops? I recall in a thread this was a topic of discussion. There were varying opinions. I assume people with large accounts don't use them that much. What can a person with a small account do? It's like a mine field out there! o_O

I don't understand how to use stops. In my brief experience, if you don't post them wide then you're automatic to get stopped out. You have to be almost perfect on when you enter to use a tight stop and not get hit. Traded 1 CL contract today(long) was wrong on direction and was stopped quick...

Can you explain R\R? Do you mean risk $50 to make $100? I also don't understand why when I buy one thing it's +1 share, but on another it's +100. I feel like that's something I need to understand better. Also, can I not look at the risk just before I place a trade?
