Bars created from broker real-time data feed differ from bars created from eSignal

OK, if OHLC is equivalent of Open, High, Low, Close, then they have a "natural" meaning for Daily, Weekly, Monthly, etc. intervals - you have Open for the Day, Close for the Day, High for the Day and Low for the Day. Now in intra-day interval of 1 minute or other minutes OHLC do not have this...

Bars created from broker real-time data feed differ from bars created from eSignal

I mean grouping candlesticks by 1, 5, 15 min etc. is arbitrary. The meaning of OHLC makes sense for Day, Week , Month but not make sense intra-day.

Each trader sees real-time bar charts that are unique to them

That is the reason to not use "free" apps.

Each trader sees real-time bar charts that are unique to them

I tested a lot of data sources to get "reliable" data. There are too many discrepancies. Seems to me the best approach is to get them from the source I am trading. It is not without its quirks too.

Each trader sees real-time bar charts that are unique to them

This is true, although I can name at least one data source not giving a time stamp.

Each trader sees real-time bar charts that are unique to them

Candlestick bars do not make sense to be used intra-day.

Walk Forward Optimization in Trading Algorithms

Maybe - but you don't read the posts. There was a discussion about statistics and my point was to use it careful - that is all.

good luck and listen to "fairy tales" - no you don't personally know rich people - you are reading about them. Having MS makes sense after you spend time learning. I learned - are you?

Hi Kevin, I see you are institutional trader (I think). Could you please tell me - do your institution is using statistics, where and how? It would be interesting to know its usage. Thanks

No - what you don't understand is that following the "official" rules you will go where the "climate change" is going - it was "official", right? Based on statistics, right? Let stop here - this is out of topic You think you understand what "null" hypotesis means. Explain please how do...

I am using ticks not bars. Bars don't make sense intra-day.

Bars created from broker real-time data feed differ from bars created from eSignal

Are implying that brokers are manipulating data? Do you have such observation or it is just an educated guess? Or you are referring to something else?

It is about the basis, the foundation on you build. "Falsify" is not exactly the case but if we use the term - to "falsify" or "prove" you have to have a right basis, a standard. You cannot prove or disprove on basis of false presumptions.

Walk Forward Optimization in Trading Algorithms

Basically this leaves a lot of books describing "back-testng" irrelevant. Statistical methods as they are used are "illusion" for the matter we deal with - the stock market. One corner stone of statistics methods is a "normal" or other well formed data distribution. Even if you have an...

Bars created from broker real-time data feed differ from bars created from eSignal

I would not say that "somebody" intentionally corrects data. The data are just too much, dispersed on different exchanges (for example there already NYSE registered stocks trading not only on NYSE, NYSE being only 25% of their trading volume). Currently there is no way any single entity to...

Here is some interesting info about some things you can stay away: http://www.sciencenews.org/view/feature/id/57091/title/Odds_Are,_Its_Wrong Basically: "The “scientific method” of testing hypotheses by statistical analysis stands on a flimsy foundation. "
