The Fed almost always does exactly what the Fed Funds futures indicate it will do. Not because the Fed follows the Fed Funds futures, but because the Fed guides the market to anticipate what the Fed has decided to do. That means a cut of at least 25 bp and maybe 50bp. That could change before...
Unlike a few other stocks I traded today, I lost money trading GE. It was acting as if it was safe to take a position, but then acted strangely with no warning. Inside bid/ask spread seemed to widen periodically, more than normal. I wonder if this action was tied to the liquidity quote somehow.

Circuitous Tax Changes for Traders
By FLOYD NORRIS
HERE is an unwelcome surprise for short-term stock traders in the new tax law: They may have to pay full income-tax rates on some dividends they receive.
The new law also contains bad news for...
Enron, WorldCom, HealthSouth, and numerous other public companies were able to fool their auditors, fool their investors, and fool the public, all the time being in the public eye. As for the community of traders.....
My experience with IB's OpenBook is that it periodically reverts to best bid/best offer only. It has been better this week than it was last week. Being limited to three securities at a time is an issue.
I figure that Greenspan is playing the deflation card so that he had the political cover to cut rates more -- in a cynical move to get Bush reelected. Unless we are going the way of Japan, which I don't see, deflation should not be a problem.
This excerpt from the Barron's piece makes the point that earnings are not that bad:
"Since 1979, note the folks at Ned Davis Research, a stock-market research firm in Nokomis, Fla., analysts have forecast an 18.7% annual earnings increase for the Russell 1000 growth index, which includes...

A year ago, Dell's first fiscal quarter ended on Friday, May 3. Dell released earnings in a press release (it can be found on the Dell website) one minute after the close on May 16. Maybe it will be a candidate to short as this year's earnings release date (May 15)...

Thanks for the heads up, vhehn.
Can someone explain the difference between Dell's home office criteria and its small business criteria. Can a home based trader order from either? Is one consistently cheaper better than the other or does it just depend on the day?
The small business...
VIX closed today at 24.59, the lowest level since 6/03/02. It broke through its lows of late November, 2002 and early January 2003, both of which were good opportunities to sell. While I am long now, VIX is making me a nervous long.
Steve and Def,
Is there a way of automating placing a buy limit X cents below the market and a sell limit X cents above. If so, can you get it to automatically adjust to the changing last print?
