Honey, Lets Sell the Kids and Buy Gold

Doesn't necessarily follow. Gold doesn't pay an income so high rates are a negative drag. PMs may be going up in anticipation of rate cuts. But who knows. :D

MSTR -- To get out or not...

Yep there'll probably be a bounce in btc (and mstr) fairly soon. You're obviously a lot more resilient than me, which is essential for surviving these rollercoaster markets.

MSTR -- To get out or not...

Been there, done that, got a closet full of t-shirts! Take it from someone who has the mental scars to show for it, there really is no point dwelling and beating yourself up about what coulda been. I think I said it before, trading/investing can be a dangerous game, and not just to your bank...

MSTR -- To get out or not...

You still holding them? I guess you've got nothing to lose if you've already got back your initial capital+600%.

    Which way? Gold.

Hi @themickey My wife and I have been watching TV shows like Aussie Gold Hunters and Outback Opal Hunters (Rod and Les!) for many years. They're on a terrestrial channel here in the UK called Quest (offshoot of Discovery). Just curious, are they popular down under? I recently bought her a...

    Bitcoin Price Thread

It kinda makes sense to me that each successive bull market delivers a lower return. After all, it takes a lot more money to move Bitcoin at $50k ($1tn market cap) than $5k ($100bn). But no-one can predict the market, no matter how fancy the analysis. Not even @johnarb :D

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

But there's no guarantee this crash/recover/boom cycle will keep repeating. Often, when a pattern becomes this obvious, and everyone just expects it like the Sun coming up, is when it stops working. But hey I'm probably just too old and cynical. :D

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

No debt (mortgage/loans paid off) but I'm retired and living off savings/investments. Losing 70% of those savings/investments would be life changing (and not in a good way).

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

You have to be very careful with this. For some folks, that sort of emotional turmoil could lead to serious mental illness. I know if I had the bulk of my net worth in Bitcoin, and it dropped over 70%, I'd be in a very bad place.

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

Not sure I ever expressed that. Frankly I've no idea what Bitcoin will do short-term or long-term, and see no point in speculating where it will go. Maybe you're thinking of someone else? However, I'll admit I do regret not buying when I considered doing so in early 2019 when it was sub-$5k. Oh...

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

I don't know how many Bitcoin players think like you do. I suspect many are still in it for FNGU (fastest number goes up). If people ever stop believing that Bitcoin will deliver FNGU...

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

15 years is nowhere near long enough to judge if it will stand the test of time, as an investment, like bonds, stocks, gold.

    MicroStrategy's infinite money glitch

There is no denying that Bitcoin has produced astronomical returns over a 13-year period. I doubt anything else in history even comes close. Looking at the chart, though, most of the eye popping gains were prior to 2018. Since then, the returns have been on a par with other high flying...

    Gold vs bitcoin ...

Over the long haul, the metals woefully underperform the stock market. However, there are times (like the 1970s, 2000s) where they outperform. It's possible we may be in for one of those periods quite soon.

    Gold vs bitcoin ...

Gold does have a little bit longer track record than Bitcoin as a SoV. :D If I had to choose between Gold and Bitcoin in the following hypothetical scenario, I'd choose Gold even though Bitcoin would probably end up being worth a lot more. A $1m inheritance is placed in trust, in my name, but...

    Gold vs bitcoin ...

Gold is only at an ATH in absolute terms. Inflation-adjusted, it's never surpassed the peak in 1980. :wtf: And it's still below the highs of 2011 and 2020. https://www.macrotrends.net/1333/historical-gold-prices-100-year-chart Pull up a 10-year chart of BTC-vs-Gold, and there's simply no...

    Bitcoin price projection

Maybe it's a combination of the two. Small pool of available coins and a large number of non-professional/retail traders (aka gamblers).

    Bitcoin price projection

He/she did say "Bitcoin traders", not investors. The investors, who never sell, don't affect the price. I've always wondered why, with a $1tn market cap, it behaves more like a penny stock, and this might say something about the type of people actively trading it.
