Oil hits $64/barrel, market doesn't care

lol! And because the Black Pearl doesn't need oil, Jack Sparrow will be be ideally positioned to seize more loot! :D

China signals switch in reserves away from dollar

People are minimizing China's obstacles with the same speculative fervor that they minimized internet companies' obstacles in the late '90's. Yes, China has done some things well and, yes, the US has made some mistakes but neither is 100% one way or the other and it's foolish to think that...

Oil hits $64/barrel, market doesn't care

This cracks me up. I'm not saying the market should drop like a rock because oil has hit 64 bucks. I just think it's hilarious that equities traders practically crapped their pants on every oil uptick last fall and, during this rally, oil is off the radar.

Trading on material nonpublic information by the big guys

I worked in options surveillance for one of the option exchanges in the '90's. It was SEC policy that they did not investigate suspicious institutional trades because they did not feel they could prove that institutions and large trading firms were doing anything other than their usual...

    Fibonacci

The best thing about Fibs is that they can make you more aware of support and resistance levels after you draw them on a chart. Are they really predictive of price action? Maybe, maybe not, but applying some mystical, cosmic schtick to your trading via Fibonacci is totally absurd and ill...

Remind me not to place any money with the nitwits at Sprott. I'm sure they're pulling in the bush=hitler crowd with this lightweight jibberish.

China to be world's 4th biggest economy after GDP revision

Japan and China have a long and troubled history that you seem to be unaware of. (Just today, look at Japan's statements regarding their view of China as a military threat.) The idea that China, a communist dictatorship, is going to develop a "liquid and transparent bond market" that the...

    80% bullish on large caps

Yeah, I keep trying to come up with reasons to be bullish and this article gives me the creeps. Jan 06 might turn out as ugly as Jan 05.

    MetaStock or Tradestation

I've used end-of-day MetaStock for years and have been thinking of getting some intraday TA software. I could either upgrade MS to their intraday version or go with Tradestation (I won't be using their brokerage service). Anyone have a preference between the two?

China to be world's 4th biggest economy after GDP revision

domi93 - Great posts, thanks. You make great points about PPP, etc. It's interesting that, while everyone agrees the Chinese have worked hard and are coming on strong, there's very little thought given in the many analyses to the weaknesses in or threats to the Chinese economy and...

    80% bullish on large caps

From bloomberg.com: "Money managers are more bullish on large-company stocks than they have been in seven quarters, in part because they expect the Federal Reserve to end its series of interest rate increases soon, according to a survey of 112 investment management firms with $40 billion in...

    Spoos Bull Trap?

Yeah, possibly a repeat of the bail out we saw in the first couple weeks of Jan 05, only they're starting now to try to cover their ass for '05.

    Spoos Bull Trap?

This could get ugly. The S&P could close the year a lot closer to flat than we are right now.

    Today's closing-trend will be....

I don't know, Rennick. Look at the Nasdaq Comp daily chart. It looks like it's heading into a serious downtrend and the other indices are looking ill also. The Dow is about the only one that looks halfway healthy and that's probably because of its drug stocks. I wouldn't go long here...

    Amzn

I hear ya! That 4 week range you mention is amazing. I bought a Jan 50 straddle just to hedge but I think it's going lower, possibly in dramatic fashion. Also, AMZN has a long-established habit of disappointing analysts in terms of sales and earnings. I think we're likely to see a repeat...
