Don's Openings and More for 2006

To Lescor, I know you are a great record keeper and your previous comments were in regards to Mondays, but did you notice anything as to the 1st day of the month? ie: did the sells on the first day of the month tend to lean toward the losing side or did it matter?

Don's Openings and More for 2006

Intuitively, I think I will only take buys on the 1st day of a month. Does anyone have any type of statistics going back at least 12 months that might back that up? There just seems to be too much money flowing in to fight it with sells.

filled on shorts txn, hpq long jpm txn and hpq were a wash...nice trade in jpm If you look back on yesterday's post regarding mechanical management of the trades, please note, it's a lot harder to put in stops, targets, etc then I thought it would be. I'm still going to try to do...

only 2 fills txn and hpq. lost .20 on hpq and made about the same in txn. I'm looking for a more mechanical exit strategy both for stop losses and profits. Starting Thursday, on the stop loss side: Put stop loss at .10 if trade ever becomes profitable. My thinking is that if...

Don's Openings and More for 2006

I only had 3 fills today. hpq was a small loser, i sold when it bounced back -.05 jpm small winner +.03 mer took .20, but it shot up over a dollar :( I would love to figure out how to stay long in something when the spu's look weak, etc. I usually don't have a problem staying in on...

Arnie, Thank you for that clarification, I was thinking you were saying that mer reverses over 50% of the time from an opening that is not unchanged. It is really much less than that in the way that you have defined it.

Question for Arnie, "MER will reverse from the open 52% of the time with an MAE of less than .10 I have found many stocks that reverse close to 60% of the time." What parameters did you use to define a "reversal"? ie: >.20 or .001%? Thanks

Chiguy, I, too, was in mer and bailed with a 20 point profit or $200, leaving at least 450 on the table. On the other hand, I bailed on hwp and twx (long) with profits and they have now tanked pretty good. Any suggestions on maximizing profits? Thanks

thanks, have you tried making sure your stops are on the other side of the nickels? ie: buy stops at the sixes and the ones...sell stops at the fours and nines. sometimes it helps, but not always.

Chiguy, Just curious (no criticism intended). How do you lose $250 on hon? I was filled on my ss @ 36.50, high of the day was .74. With-in a few minutes in dropped right back down. I just scratched the trade at b/e, but I was wondering what your stop loss exit parameters are...

Understood and thank you. I guess the reason for asking if anyone had any statistics on it was for the following: Let's say over a one year period, 1,000,000 of the shares you traded were buys when there was a premium and sells when there was a discount. If those 1,000,000 shares turned...

Lescor, Thank you for your comments. It sounds like you're just keepin' it as simple as possible without trying to "overthink" the strategy. I know you keep tremendous trading records. Have you ever looked at the trades to get any statisical info on whether trades that were...

Don's Openings and More for 2006

Maybe Lescor or Don have enough statistics to elaborate, but I would welcome anyone's insight. This strategy, oo, is based upon the expectation that an out of line premium allows us to take advantage of stocks that will also open out of line with the premium on the spoos. Today for...

I was reading an article on the Arca/NYSE merger this weekend. Do you think that when it goes through it will render the OO strategy unprofitable?
