    bad bush timing

i think probably the best time to do it is November. Bernanke is a shoe in. Hubbard, Kohn, Feldstien were shoe-ins too. The confirmation process shouldn't take a long time. I think doing this outside of Oct and after earnings season would have been more prudent.

    bad bush timing

i just don't understand why bush would nominate a fed chairman when the market has been swooning - and swooning in october, to boot. not a very shrewd move on his part or the part of his advisors.

Cramer on the cover of businessweek

used to hate him. don't mind him now at all. he has a really tough job, which i don't envy. i don't hink many people in america could do what he does. i do fear he'll die of a heart attack though.

$420,000 for each of Goldman's 22,000 workers worldwide

that maniac was probably on the bottom once for a while too. he or she likely wasn't born in a private jet.

Oil guru says crude could hit $190 this winter

i don't think this is a fair analogy. i think simmons makes most of his money from his investment banking company, not from a newsletter, like gilder. his predictions are getting a little bit out there, though.

Refco Owes Jim Rogers Fund $362 Million

pretty sure they were only futures contracts. i also think he used no leverage, so even if his positions were unwound i doubt they would make much of a dent in the market. but that's just my ignorant opinion.

Short the SPY's or SP 500 futures?

first, i'll preface this recommendation by saying this is probably a terrible point to go short, and a great time to go long. evidence is pointing to a short term bottom here. but if you're going long term short here (multi-year) i would, in agreement with the previous poster, recommend a...

Refco Owes Jim Rogers Fund $362 Million

is it possible to insure accounts against bank and broker seizure or theft through a 3rd party, not fdic/sipc? if so what are the rates?

Refco Owes Jim Rogers Fund $362 Million

in a salespitch for his fund and commodities in general, rogers always claimed that commodities could never go to zero. maybe, in this case, he was wrong.

    where are the crash posts?

this market is a nice trade down until we start seeing somre real crash fears rather than "inflation concerns." we didn't see a bottom in april until the black monday posts started flooding these boards. people were really afraid then, not just concerned.

    Next Fed Chairman

my guess is it's probably bernanke, but maybe feldstien.

    USD selling off now

it's time has come? or perhaps there is no reason at all. I just read a paper that stipulates in the long run interest rate differentials have an effect on the price of currency pairs, but in the short run price movements approximate a random walk.

Which is better, an MBA or PhD?
