    Closed end funds?

Hey all, this isn't spam. I invest in closed end funds, and do some preliminary research at cefconnect.com. I like that these can trade at discounts- anyone else opt for these instead of ETFs sometimes? As a general rule, I only invest in these if there's some sort of dividend pay out...

    Nflx

when NFLX was at 104 I was about to buy a put but woosed out- not sure how far this can deflate- it's a great company with a limitted amount of float.

Buying a Stock and Selling a Put

this is not something that a "trader" would do, but an investor would. Also, this is not a trade that you'd do at the same time, because the thought processes are different. You go long a stock when you feel that the stock will go up. You short a put when: you feel that the stock...

    LEAPs

My outlook: I think stocks like BRK.B and PFE are undervalued and see them going to 90+ and 25+ in the next few years. I'm thinking about buying 1 or 2 year LEAPs as to not tie up too much cash(by going long) and to take advantage of moves that will be greater than the implied premium...

I took my lumps on the short calls.

you can lose your shorts, just don't lose your shirt!

    Drys

I agree- DRYS is old news to traders, but I think it's an undervalued company, and their business will improve.

    ARCC - Ares Capital

Anyone invest in this? Any idea if this is at a discount/premium to it's portfolio's NAV?

    Abx, Gg, Aem, Kgc, Nem

I've seen these mining stocks as leveraged plays on gold, which has stayed the same since early 2007, and probably earlier. I don't see how these stocks could really break out proportionately higher than the gold price. There's a high demand in the world for gold, and there is a lot of...

    Cosi?

I know the company from eating at the restaurants, they have a decent, uniqiue product... anybody know anything about the health of the company?

    I went long puts.

you could have just sold or written calls too. Your strategy works too, but any profit you see on the puts will be offset by your losses in stock. I'm personally not a big fan of buying puts when you're long.

Call sellers have been getting killed in this market

"always" is not a word that is not in most traders' vocabs... I agree with the OP- it's been a rough time for shorters.

    EBAY=Not worth it

eBay makes its money off of businesses and professional sellers- not off of grandma selling her old records from the attic- like it used to. The company makes money. They've got 13 billion in shareholder equity and 35 billion market cap- at a forward P/E around 18. Sorry about your...

The relationship between more dollars and rising stock prices?

more currency is enterring our system, and corporations have more cash on the books. Also, money is loose and investors are not moving towards cash investments or bonds. The money is going into the market, and I believe we're seeing the beginning of a bubble in stocks overall, and...

    Are writing options profitable?

lol. I buy risky stocks and sell calls, or I'll sell cash-secured puts. Most of the time I would make more money if i hadn't sold the options- but i do it to protect myself- I'm a risk-averse investor.

    PALM strike!

Palm has negative book value, negative past earnings, and estimated negative future earnings. What sets them apart is the quality of their employees and the platform they've made- webOS. Palm made DRASTIC mistakes in pricing and marketting- which has led to the- nobody i know owns a...
