Sucky trading week (down 1k1). Started out awesome with Monday (I was up over 3k) but on Tuesday I got stabbed with a knife and on Wednesday the market turned the knife in my chest. Friday the knife almost exploded when the market went straight up again but finally retraced some, so Friday's...

Guys, this is a great discussion. I've been toying with similar thoughts for quite some time. Since I can't easily get into/out of positions here was my approach (similar to doubling down). I was going to put indicators (mostly oscillators like stochastic) onto my P&L (treat my P&L like a...

I'm somewhere in the middle. I can't easily enter/exit my positions since they're mostly option spreads. I usually have to give up a little on the entry/exit, so I trade about 4-5 trades a day (enter or exit) but most of them run between a week and a couple of month. I also try to find a...

Up trading week (1k) but terrible three days. By Tuesday I was up by over 4 grand already and gave almost everything back. The S&P 500 ripped like there's no tomorrow, so I'm basically back to the S&P performance since I started this comparison. Had a great time in Vegas but while I made...

Sucky trading week (down 2k1). Good news first. Monday and Tuesday were bad but by far not as bad as the S&P 500 performance. Wednesday I was at breakeven and the spike in volatility let my S2 trades gain quite a bit while everything else lost (especially the DOW and the S&P). Thursday I was up...

Yes, that's exactly what I did (daily P&L). Good point on the % based approach. So with that should I do % based on the initial capital or should I do it based on the previous day (which would I think defeat the purpose)?

Here's the correlation chart. Based on Excel's correlation function (1 being correlated, -1 not being correlated) my trading performance is 0.14 correlated with the S&P 500 (that's actually pretty good). That's on 190 data points/trading days. A couple of month ago it was almost .81 correlated...

Software to Visualize Option Value Across Time

Check out thinkorswim. Once you put on your position you can go to the analyze tab, advance the time, change volatility on some of your legs or move the current underlying price and see the result. It's a awesome platform for that type of analysis/test

Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking. It won't be % but $$$ based but I'll use that to derive the comparison. When I did that the last time I didn't like the result ;), my problem is that I've daily data going back until June of last year but not further. The problem was last time (and...

Weekly results of a wanna B algo trader - 2011

Well, I just started with my taxes for last year and one thing I can say for sure is that I'll owe about 8-9 grand. So to avoid going into debt again, I'll take the 6 grand out that I've put in last month. That's about 46 SPY shares, so my performance comparison benchmark drops down to 1978 SPY...

Strong trading week (Up 6k3). I enjoyed a ton of seafood (and Mardi Gras) in San Diego this week. Trip was good, especially since on Tuesday I've had a +6k day. Then Wednesday I gave some money back and Thursday I was where I started for the week. Needless to say I was very frustrated. Then...

Awesome trading week (up a grand). This has been the biggest emotional roller coaster I've had in my trading in a long time. Monday Tuesday were very bad but Wednesday and Thursday were amazing. Thursday was the biggest one day gain I've ever had. Here are my daily nbrs. for this week (-2034...

thanks for your input, it's right on the money. I fully agree with the statement and I've read the book, so I should have remembered ;) You'd think having it all automated makes things easier but in reality the hardest thing to do is to keep my hands off the keyboard and "adjust" the...

Weekly results of a wanna B algo trader - 2011

Long story short, I’ve had two very bad trading days, blowing almost 11 grand. (without doing impulsive or discretionary trades) The reason the last two days went wrong so badly wasn’t that the market didn't cooperate, that’s something a trader has to be prepared for, the reason is that...

    auto trading server machine spec

Depends if they need a database. If they do, then I'd create one shared DB VM. you can control access to that via standard DB permissions. I would spec that one a little larger as far as memory goes than the other VMs. (8GB at least). How much do you charge for the VMs/month ?
