Here is why owning some Bitcoin now makes sense

Previously you were talking about crypto as an investment, now you are talking about its use as a currency for remittances. If you spend your bitcoin then you no longer participate it any upside. In any case I was making the point you can't say chance of 5x increase in value or chance of...

Here is why owning some Bitcoin now makes sense

Yea but the odds of making 5x are not the same as the odds of a 50% decline. There are plenty of long-shot bets you can make that have very high payouts but that doesn't make them good investments .... MegaMillions lottery tickets for example. Cryptocurrencies have no intrinsic value which...

    Cable and DSL redundancy

Have you considered getting a second DSL connection (from a different ISP), then you can use one of the many dual-WAN routers to accomplish (some of) what you want. No matter how you end up doing it I suspect the software will require re-connecting/re-logging in. The router can failover for...

    Cable and DSL redundancy

I've seen home Cable/DSL routers that have a dial-up modem backup capability (example: http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=59) but nothing that would load-balance between the two (not sure if that's what you're asking) I think the difference in speed is so great that most people wouldn't...

    PC always on

Indeed I think you are confusing Raid0 and Raid1 Raid0 - Data striped across drives. No data redundancy; used to increase performance (or create a large logical drive out of smaller physical drives) Raid1 - Mirroring, each drive has (at least) one exact mirror image. Has redundancy and...

    Native .Net API

They definitely do not nor do they support any of the newer Microsoft .NET compilers (VS2003 or VS2005) for development using their API/SDK.

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

Actually there is also some human activity creating new "land" : http://realestate.theemiratesnetwork.com/developments/dubai/palm_islands.php but I'm sure that the loss of coastland due to the 2004 tsunami and katrina more then makes up for it.

    Cable and DSL redundancy

Just so you know, it really can't pool the bandwidth. Load balancing just means that if you have multiple internet connections they will be balanced across the two WAN links. Individual packets that make up each connection cannot be load balanced, they will all go over the same link...

    Why does Real Estate appreciate?

Since they have to pay interest on that amt they borrowed your argument does not make sense (unless you can borrow money with an interest rate below the rate of inflation).

Looks nice, except for this part: "Windows-based GUI software via RS232 serial port". Serial connection? What were they thinking?

    Does money buy happiness?

I'd love to know how they conduct these telephone surveys. Just call up random people and ask them how happy they are on a scale of 1 to 10? Wouldn't there be an inherent problem with that kind of question where happiness is a relative term, everyone has a different frame of reference.

    Does money buy happiness?

Funny but I remember the exact same story only it was fish instead of fruit...I found many hits for the fish version of the story in google: http://www.steverrobbins.com/articles/qlife.htm

    PC always on

That really depends on what you do with it. Does it need to run programs 24/7 or just have the programs open but "sleeping". If you need the computer to perform work 24/7 it can't go into standby mode. If you need to access the hard drive 24/7, you can't spin the hard drive down. Like I...
