I can only give you the response I got from IB when I asked a similar question. I was told that if there were occassions I wanted to purchase shares with cash only, no margin, I would need a cash account, separate from my margin account. I dont know if this helps you really as it already...

Excellent. I have actually been trading the system with a very small account via spreadbets. It has made me £500 in a couple of months.

There is a very interesting book on trading mutual funds by Al Thomas called "If it doesnt go up dont buy it". I have read the book and still operate one of my accounts as mutual fund trading. I have no connection with the author other than having found the book useful.

Try emailing Al Thomas at al@mutualfundmagic.com He wrote an excellent book on trading mutual funds called "If it doesnt go up don't buy it. He answers emails, I've contacted him myself. Its based on US mutual fund trading. He will be able to answer your question I'm sure.

Its great that they are security conscious. This prevents them publishing their address or personal details!!!!
