It entirely depends on what market you're in and when you're trading. It seems like everyone is glued to ES/NQ/CL/ZN/ZB. Think outside of the box and venture to some less popular but still active contracts, or isolate your trading to unexpected and outsized moves in the popular ones.

I'm an armchair observer of NG spreads at this point, and to my untrained eye calendars running from this coming fall until F21 seem like a good play for a reversal. Looking at V20Z20 and V20F21. Anybody have thoughts on this kind of trade and why it might blow up in my face?

I would trade Eurodollar calendar spreads with a holding time of a few days to a few weeks. Low variance price action and low margin requirements enable you to take some heat and work your position without getting your face ripped off in most cases.

Outright grains have a pretty 'readable' DOM, although corn is the slowest. If the outrights are still a little spicy for you check out the calendar spreads. Most of time they creep along but like anything they'll jump if there's a catalyst.
