Stop believing the cushing full story... The drop to low was only very temporary and right when QM and ICE futures cash settled.... at low. I would not be surprised at all if big shorts in QM and ICE Fut sold down (aka manipulated) CL only to cover right afterwards... Only very little volume...

But i still like your pick, data may come out after expiration abd even if bad not a sure loss. I guess many did the 5/7.5 spread.

I did some research. Phase III on their potential Blockbuster and main drug in pipeline (shizophrenia) is due... IV seems right then.

IV is crazy high. Did you do some research? Maybe an FDA decision pending or important trial news ahead?

Found that dude trading CL with an IB account

Settlement was at low, so they made max profit.

    Negative numbers

I agree with you, many other firms would probably just reject any false doing and may settle with customers individualy or even go to court. Hats off to IBKR to just admit they messed up. But i still think they did consider other options as well but after a thorough review just had to realize...

No, IBKR compensates the difference from 0.00 to settlement price - 37.63, as he was locked into his position below 0.01. According to my calculation he will thus only lose around 4k. "Interactive Brokers foresees refunding $18,815 for the Nymex ones and $37,630 for ICE’s, according to a...

Found that dude trading CL with an IB account

Ok, didn't know that. But they could still easily have gone out of business over this. For e.g. if oil (CL) went negative earlier than 15 min before expiration and IB customers loaded up on WTI not realizing it can go <0 due to the low margin req.

Found that dude trading CL with an IB account

Agree... A 10MM account could have bought 330k contracts, resulting in a loss of >12 Billion. With CL dropping without a bottom he would def have gotten filled at 0.01 on quite some size. Taking IBKR off the map.

IB customers lose $88m trading WTI crude

Exactly, and Peterffy correctly points out, that these contracts are very vulnerable to this by design.

IB customers lose $88m trading WTI crude

IBKR messed up big time, but they acknowledge their mistakes. Hats off for that. By this they avoid long legal battle with ongoing negative publicity and they also keep us traders who got caught in this due to their negligence as customers with decent volume and commissions. In my case they will...

IB customers lose $88m trading WTI crude

They will compensate everything <0. So instead of - 9M he lost around 4k (3.30+0.5+212*0.01)*1000.

IB customers lose $88m trading WTI crude

It was not, i did try it when realizing something is very shady.... Order got submitted but didnt go to market. It was shown in dark blue state in tws.
