I believe it is Merkel who is in favor of a FTT. However, she cannot push this through because it would require agreement from the other party that forms the coalition government with her own party. That party is anti-FTT.

Reposting another of my comments from January 10, which becomes more relevant now:

I warned everyone about this back on January 10. As far as I know, 36 lawmakers signed the letter. Three of them were confirmed House Democrats. No word on who the others were. My current guess as to how many supporters 4191 has in the House is 101, based on sponsorship, confirmed statements...

The irony of a post talking about ranting and raving that comes across as ranting and raving... :) Actually, the little guy who trades 6-12 times annually could easily turn over his portfolio completely over the course of a year. Even that low level of activity could cost him substantially...

That's a nice looking website! I think the page http://skepticalscience.com/argument.php is particularly effective since it breaks everything down into tiny morsels digestible by even the most ADD-challenged individuals. It's probably a good idea to have something like that for this issue...

Another candidate running against DeFazio is Jaynee Germond. From her platform it seems like she would also be anti-FTT. Maybe donating to either campaign would be a good thing: http://www.germond2010.com. Does anybody here understand Oregon and why this stooge DeFazio keeps getting voted in?
