I am plugging this because I think there must be a lot of IB option traders who aren't aware and will be pleasantly surprised ...
For me, the biggest problem with executing hedged option orders with IB is there was no decent way to package the option order with the hedge and have the package...
Thanks dst for another very helpful response. I may post on the options forum with a reference to this thread ... I think a lot of options traders are not aware that the "pairs trade order" is also the only really useful order for executing hedged options spreads with the hedge on the server side.
Thanks for the excellent answers dst, appreciate it very much. At this point I'm just waiting for a beta version of the standalone TWS ... any ETA on this?
And, will the first beta have the fixes for (1) the delay in attaching the hedge order and (2) the ability to change BUY/SELL for orders...
Thanks for the great responses dst ... the hedge calculation is the most important issue so can you please provide more clarification (truthfully I am confused):
1.
True or False: hedge quantity for a full parent execution (no partial fills) = round_down(ratio * parent_quantity) =...
These days my most prevalent pattern is to first try penny-jumping (never hurts to try, and even if you are joined instantly you still - hopefully - have some priority), then if I get jumped instantly, I cancel and join instead. I only use hiddens in very special circumstances, like joining...
Points well taken Daal, and thanks for the post ... but I would remind all readers that in my case we're talking about a trading program that no longer exists and observations that are 2 years old ... the main reason I started posting to this thread was not to give anything useful, but rather to...
We're talking about all kinds of price ranges and other market behavior since the experiment stretched over a period of months and involved hundreds of symbols ... average spreads for the most part were at least a few cents (lower-volume symbols); in my opinion it would be a completely different...
Dst, while I'm waiting for the standalone TWS I'm coding and testing pair orders for outright options ... a few questions:
1.
TWS rounds the hedge ratio to 2 digits on the screen ... is it also rounding to 2 digits internally, and whatever the answer is, is the behavior identical for API...
At the time I was talking about, my strategy was a lot like yours.
Right.
Regarding "I assume the game will be less rigged against me" and "still I feel less molested" ... right, that is the seductive thing about using hiddens ... I felt the same way back then, and I still use hiddens...
I'm asking to get flamed because my knowledge is so stale, but ok:
1.
To the best of my knowledge, only for NYSE d-quotes where the floor broker or DMM has a pegged order back behind the BBO ... the rules include the behavior that the pegged quote knows about the NYSE hiddens, so if a hidden...
I did a big experiment with hidden orders a year or two ago, back when IB first coded them up correctly. For several months I used a large proportion of hiddens inside the NBBO, along with non-hiddens and compared the results, both with recent performance of my trading system with no hiddens...
Dst, I forgot to respond to the attach-combo-to-combo issue you raised. I would never want to use a market order for any option or option combo at any time for any reason, so in particular it doesn't bug me at all that I can't attach combos to combos.
Sounds fantastic dst, thanks for the quick action ... unfortunately I have to use the standalone TWS and not browser-based; can you guys get the standalone download going soon?
In the meantime can you please answer three questions about pair trades (I checked the documentation and did not...
