    The 10,000 hour rule.

I'd say 10,000 hours is in the ballpark of what it takes to break yourself of the common habits in trading. Been at it for 9 years now and I wouldn't say with 100% confidence that I was successful/consistent until year 6. I think that there is a major misconception in trading that just...

Job report much better than expected

Finally some good news. Hopeful for a increase in volatility in 2010. These past couple of weeks have been brutal. Going to keep risk tight heading into the holidays.

    Options House is now junk!!

I would stay away from any discount brokerage house. Saving a few bucks on commissions pales in comparison to the money you could potentially lose on a faulty system with poor execution. I recommend Think or Swim and OptionsXpress.

Are Agriculture Futures a good idea for a beginner?

An unequivocal NO. Agriculture futures are a horrible place for new traders to start. I know from experience. I recommend trading something far less volatile until you become consistent and then expand to other products.

    USD up, Dow up

USD been in the driver's seat this morning. Had a great morning session with stocks and currencies trading together and following through. Finally a decent trading day!

Michael Moore Kills Capitalism With Kool-Aid

Michael Moore is no better or worse than all the extremist views we get via all our wonderful 24 hours news networks. Unfortunately the days of non-editorialized news reporting have all but vanished. As a moderate with independent views I can only take in as much information as I can and...

    No response from investor relations

General rule of mine, don't trade any stocks less than $20 share price unless you are shorting them. You can save yourself a lot of heartache in the speculation game by not going that route.

    Trading education

Who said they were waiting with open arms to make us rich? Those are your words, not mine. There is a high failure rate in trading at a retail and also at a professional level, however, professional traders have a much better success ratio than those who try to go it alone at home with...

The dark side of Dubai - expat story

Very good article. It's a shame that the same mistakes seem to be repeated again and again. Hopefully this recent financial meltdown will lead to a new era of fiscal responsibility.

CAD banks still look strong - profit up, revenue up, provisions down - BMO

Had a handful of really great trades on the USD/CAD in the middle of last month, but not much here in the past week or so. I find these to be good longer term moves that are a suitable trending/drifting play.

how much live trading is relevant?

I did 2 years of back testing and 6 months of front testing 'live' before putting a strategy of my own in place. I feel like you can never be to certain. Lots of strategies will work for a window of time, but once the market environment shifts it totally changes things. You need to see if your...

    trading the emini snp.

Well, since over 90% of retail traders lose 100% of their money, it isn't really all that hard to believe. Popular or not, it offers good exposure to the equities market and nothing more. It comes with all the indecision of the stock market and can be very choppy. I wouldn't recommend...
